About the Position

We are looking for a passionate Software Engineer - Map & Route to join Wayve's Vehicle SW Engineering team. This role is pivotal in building the geospatial foundations behind our AI driver, working with global-scale data to create reliable products used across Wayve.

About our Map & Route Team

Our Map & Route team is part of Wayve’s Automotive Platforms division. We build geospatial services and data products to support company operations, working with model development, experimentation, and evaluation platforms to create an AI driver that uses maps and navigation data like an expert human driver. We are a full-stack team owning mapping end to end, touching infrastructure, data engineering, data science, backend, and frontend.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Write full-stack services in Python and Typescript, creating novel geospatial services.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand requirements and build solutions with global geospatial data.
  • Design and build data pipelines with PySpark and Databricks to enrich fleet data with mapping and road-network information at a global scale.
  • Build applications and datasets that support route planning and the preparation of map data for training and simulation.
  • Integrate with navigation and mapping APIs from providers such as Mapbox, TomTom, and Google Maps.
  • Maintain, support, and improve the services the team already runs.
  • Deploy and operate your services on Azure and Kubernetes, owning them end to end.

What You’ll Be Working On

  • Global-scale geospatial enrichment pipelines.
  • Route-planning applications and datasets.
  • Map data preparation for model training and simulation.
  • New services you’ll take from idea to production and lead end to end.

Requirements

  • Strong, hands-on Python engineer who can deliver high-quality production code at pace.
  • Comfortable with an AI-assisted or AI engineering workflow.
  • Experience with building and operating large-scale data pipelines using Spark or PySpark.
  • Comfortable writing SQL to query and analyze large datasets.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and container orchestration, ideally Azure and Kubernetes.
  • Enjoy taking ownership of new services and seeing them through end to end.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with geospatial data processing, road-network data, or routing engines.
  • Experience with Bazel or monorepo build systems.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Flyte or Airflow.

We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Meaningful equity, sharing in the ownership and long-term success of Wayve
  • Relocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable
  • Hybrid working, core hours, and the chance to work hands-on in vehicle workshops and labs
  • Learning and development budgets with support for training, conferences, and growth
  • Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, retirement or pension, access to therapists, wellbeing partnerships, team socials, and more

A quick, honest note before you apply.

Wayve is not a mature, fully-structured place with the playbook already written. Much of how we work is still being written, and if you join, you’ll help write it. That suits people who want real ownership more than people who need a settled structure from day one.

If that sounds like the kind of problem you want to spend your time on, we’d really like to hear from you.

At Wayve, we're committed to creating a diverse, fair, and respectful culture that is inclusive of everyone based on their unique skills and perspectives, and regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital, domestic, or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, pregnancy or related condition (including breastfeeding) or any other basis as protected by applicable law.
