About the Position
Software QA Engineer, Chassis Controls
Location: Palo Alto, CA
Salary: $100,000 - $360,000/year
What To Expect
The Chassis Controls team is looking for a Software QA Engineer to create and develop validation software, test cases, infrastructure, and tooling to validate Tesla braking system firmware, such as Brake-by-Wire. As a Software QA Engineer, you will conceptualize, design, and build software validation tools that allow rapid algorithm development, testing against real-world data, regression analysis, and integrate physics-based models. You will also be closely involved with the braking system functionality, expanding our test coverage and pushing to break the code.
Responsibilities
- Create and develop automated Software in the Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation infrastructure.
- Adapt existing or create new configuration management, CI tools, automated function checks, and reporting tools.
- Develop and execute automated regression test suites for safety-critical chassis controls firmware.
- Continuously analyze and improve regression test suite coverage.
- Own the validation release process for customer releases, including test strategy scoping, test execution, and sign-off.
- Create and execute board-level test plans to expose weaknesses or faults.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in designing and understanding digital circuit schematics.
- Proficiency in Python and/or C.
- Knowledge and experience with Linux system administration (Package management, scripting, Docker) is a plus.
- Scripting skills in other common languages (Perl, Shell, Bash) is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with the team.
- Knowledge and experience with automation and build tools (Jenkins, Docker, SCons) is a plus.
