Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

About the Position

We're looking for a Solutions Architect to join our team in Portugal in a remote working mode. This is a senior-level, hands-off role focused on producing end-to-end solution designs for central services in the banking domain, including Fraud, Financial Crime and Risk areas. The position requires strong problem-solving capabilities, the ability to define logical and functional architectures, and ensure alignment with long-term technology strategies while acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and govern end-to-end solution architectures for central banking applications, ensuring scalability and alignment with strategic architecture roadmaps
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate functional and non-functional requirements into comprehensive Solution Design Documents (SDDs) and architectural diagrams
  • Act as a trusted architectural advisor to senior business and IT leadership, providing guidance on technology direction and compliance with governance standards
  • Produce practical designs that align with enterprise-level principles, standards and reference architectures
  • Peer review solution designs created by other architects to ensure architectural quality, integrity and alignment
  • Work closely with engineering teams to validate technical design adherence and support solution delivery
  • Support third-party integration designs within the bank's application ecosystem
  • Advocate architecture best practices in decommissioning, archival and modernization initiatives

Requirements

  • Significant experience as a Solutions Architect within complex financial services or banking environments
  • Proven ability to create logical componentized designs, define system interactions and ensure overall solution integrity
  • Exposure to central services applications and large-scale enterprise integration architectures
  • Experience balancing immediate business priorities with strategic architecture objectives
  • Strong understanding of architecture governance processes and practical application in complex organizations
  • Ability to manage risk and issues within solution designs and provide mitigation approaches
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and facilitation skills, with ability to simplify highly technical concepts for business stakeholders
  • Independent and proactive working style with experience operating in fast-paced environments

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, BIAN, ArchiMate or C4
  • Exposure to tools such as Avolution Abacus or similar enterprise architecture management platforms
  • Understanding of microservices, API design patterns and cloud environments (e.g., AWS)
  • Previous experience with insurance integrations or similar domains within banking systems
  • Insight into large-scale transformations within global banking environments
