Job description

About the Position

We are seeking a Specjalista ds. elektroenergetyki to join our research institute, Łukasiewicz – Instytut Sztucznej Inteligencji i Cyberbezpieczeństwa, in Katowice, Poland. This role involves working remotely and focusing on the integration of renewable energy and electrochemical energy storage in traction substations.

Responsibilities

  • Critical analysis of existing project documents, including the EMS algorithm for energy storage in traction substations equipped with renewable energy sources (photovoltaic farm) and optionally, energy recovery devices (train braking energy recovery).
  • Identifying any gaps and inaccuracies in the EMS algorithm that need to be supplemented and explained by the algorithm's author.
  • Developing a program for the controller implementing the EMS algorithm, which can be done in Matlab and/or C/C++.
  • Testing the program in computer simulation conditions, for example, in the Matlab environment.
  • Testing the program in simulated operational conditions in the HIL system, where Matlab will be connected with the Raspberry PI platform.
  • Documenting the developed programs and preparing them for transfer to the company that will integrate them with the target EMS controller.
  • Participating in the testing of the target EMS controller in the traction substation (on a consulting basis).

Requirements

  • Higher education; a scientific degree is desirable.
  • Knowledge of electroenergetics, particularly related to railway traction substations equipped with additional renewable energy sources and electrochemical energy storage, including knowledge of: the structure of traction substations, control of traction substation elements, reactive power compensation in traction substations, energy codes and settlements, methods for calculating penalties for exceeding (e.g., 15-minute power), applicable at the connection point of the traction substation to the power grid, energy control/management (EMS system) with optimization of energy storage and renewable source operation, power flow optimization at the connection point of the traction substation to the power grid (e.g., cutting/shifting power peaks), power generation in the traction substation and its transmission to the power system (generation by renewable sources, discharging energy storage), energy recovery (train braking energy recovery) and cooperation of recovery devices (converters, storage) with traction substation elements, interlocking and protection systems (EAZ) used in traction substations.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of the IEC61850 interface and its use in a smart traction substation.
  • Programming languages: Matlab, C/C++.
  • Documentation of program code.
  • Integration of the Matlab environment with the Raspberry PI platform (HIL system).

We Offer

  • Work in a research institute with a solid market position.
  • Employment contract.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Remote work.
  • Participation in training – including free language courses (English, Spanish, German, Italian) for all employees.
  • A rich social package – employee holiday subsidies, holiday benefits, subsidies for "green school".
  • Employment stability – the average tenure of our employees is over 9 years.
  • Private medical care PZU.
  • Sports passes.
  • Employee Pension Program.
