About the Position
Sr. Coder Abstractor - Inpatient
At Munson Healthcare, we are seeking a dedicated Sr. Coder Abstractor - Inpatient to join our team. This role involves analyzing medical records, accurately coding diagnoses and procedures, and ensuring compliance with coding standards.
Responsibilities
- Analyze each medical record to determine which items will be coded and abstracted.
- Accurately code and abstract inpatient medical records, meeting expected productivity standards.
- Assign ICD10-CM diagnosis, ICD10-PCS procedure codes, and CPT-4 procedure codes.
- Communicate with physicians and Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists to ensure correct code assignment and compliance with guidelines.
- Maintain an organized system for personal coding reference material and participate in educational activities.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information, or CCS certification with a minimum of 2 years coding experience.
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
- One to three years' previous experience using ICD10-CM and ICD10-PCS coding systems.
- Demonstrated ability to meet productivity and quality standards.

Must have a minimum of two years of inpatient coding experience including coding very complex diagnoses and procedures, and experience with Prebill processes and timely communication and collaboration with CDI to ensure coding accuracy and optimal billing outcomes.
