About the Position
LRS Consulting Services is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer / Architect (Linux/Puppet) for a remote contract-to-hire opportunity with our opinion research client in Chicago, IL. This role is ideal for a senior infrastructure professional who enjoys architecting automation solutions, advancing Infrastructure-as-Code practices, and supporting enterprise Linux environments across both cloud and on-premises platforms.
Responsibilities
- Support and enhance enterprise Linux infrastructure across on-premises and cloud-hosted environments.
- Design and implement automation solutions for server provisioning, configuration management, and operational processes.
- Maintain and extend Infrastructure-as-Code practices across Linux and Windows server environments.
- Develop and support automation workflows utilizing Puppet, scripting, and related technologies.
- Partner with infrastructure teams to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and system reliability.
- Support compliance initiatives, audits, system hardening efforts, and documentation requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, automation, and system administration issues.
- Assist with modernization initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across the infrastructure landscape.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years+ of systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, or Linux administration experience.
- Strong enterprise Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with Puppet strongly preferred; comparable experience with Ansible, Chef, or similar configuration management platforms will be considered.
- Demonstrated experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code and automated systems management practices.
- Strong Bash scripting experience.
- Python and/or PowerShell experience preferred.
- Experience automating server provisioning, deployment, and operational workflows.
- Experience supporting Linux systems within Azure and/or AWS environments preferred.
- Experience working within compliance-driven environments utilizing standards such as NIST, CIS, STIG, FedRAMP, or similar frameworks.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Entra ID, and enterprise authentication concepts preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and collaboration skills.
Salary
The base range for this contract position is $70.00 - $90.00 per hour, depending on experience. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires across all U.S. locations. Individual compensation is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
