The Mission

As an SRE Expert Lead, you will play a pivotal role in guiding tribe(s) toward achieving their Site Reliability Engineering objectives. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, balancing the priorities of individual tribes with those of the broader organization. This role requires strategic thinking, strong stakeholder alignment, and the ability to collaborate within a distributed team-each member focusing on a specific tribe.

WB Tech SRE is a CoE, with an IT Lead in the MT WB Tech. WB Tech focuses on facilitating the functional and product-oriented activities of the Wholesale Banking division across borders. Examples of these activities are Lending, Financial Markets, and Wholesale channels.

The CoE is made up of four different “teams”, who each have a specific responsibility and scope and has the following organization structure.

SRE Expert Leads – Focus on driving Reliability across the tribes and technologies, this role is functionally part of the Expert Leads
SRE Engineers – Focus on reliable engineering and engineering best practices
WBMIM – Incident coordination team that also includes some process owner roles and activities
SRE Testing – Team focused on test automation and test practices for WB

Each SRE Expert leads a tribe(s) in regards to their SRE practices and implementations. You are participating in Global SRE Guilds and have are responsible for a set of SRE capabilities.

Responsibilities

As an SRE Expert you are dedicated to supporting the PSS SRE Team in their SRE objectives.

The SRE focus is on creating a reliable and available service for customers. This role holds multiple facets and, dependent on the match with your skills, can entail the following activities:

Support or perform in-depth reviews and analysis on Asset/Service implementations regarding their monitoring and alerting setup;
Support or perform in-depth reviews and analysis on Asset/Service implementations regarding their resilience architectural design;
Provide knowledge sessions about SRE topics, like SLI/SLO definition and setup, how to perform resilience testing, review DR plans, identify toil, etc.;
Analyze and help support in Root Cause analysis and Post-Mortems, help identify the necessary improvement actions to prevent the incident in the future;
By (Incident, Problem, Change) data analysis identify structural improvements and advocate them in the organization;
Provide hands-on support in case application teams are struggling with implementing ING monitoring and alerting standards.
The SRE Expert role is one that requires flexibility and agility with switching technical expertise and communicative skills to facilitate the organization best.
Contribute to the E&R organization
Is part of a Global SRE Guild.

Requirements

You bring structure, curiosity, and a passion for improving reliability. You are comfortable navigating across engineering teams, SRE specialists, and senior stakeholders. You thrive in analytical work, identify what others may overlook, and have the courage to challenge the status quo to drive structural change.

Currently, we are looking for someone that feels they fit the above description and has an understanding of the below technical skill set.

Good understanding of Linux (RHEL) or Windows
Good understanding of SQL and familiarity with RDBMS databases (Oracle, MS SQL)
Good understanding of CI/DC standards (preferably Azure DevOps)
Extensive knowledge of IT tools to share and collaborate
Experience with monolithic application landscape
Must have user experience with monitoring and alerting tools (Prometheus, ELK, Grafana, etc.)
Knowledge of open telemetry is a bonus
Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering – (SRE) (concept, SLI, SLO, error budgeting, availability reporting)
Ability to understand Consumers and engineers
Problem-solving mentality
Strong voice and healthy skepticism
Mentor and coach other SRE Experts in the team
Good knowledge of IT security principles
Good knowledge of containers and cloud tooling

Nice to Have

Experience with distributed systems
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
