About the Position

Staff Engineer Data & Intelligence (all genders)

Deutschlandweit Mobil (remote)

Full-time, 40 hours, permanent

About the Position

Are you ready to help shape the future of European e-mobility? Then chargecloud is the right place for you! Since our founding in 2016, we have been supporting companies of all sizes in operating their charging infrastructure. Our strong, diverse team of more than 250 employees makes it possible: a software-as-a-service solution that manages charging points and contract data and bills charging processes – across Europe, automated and infinitely scalable.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the data architecture across the Data & Intelligence cluster, and build the pipelines that ingest, enrich, and process charging, POI, traffic, and market data in batch and streaming (Spark, Kafka, Debezium).
  • Perform complex data analysis and turn the results into clear recommendations for internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Research, build, and evaluate forecasting models for charge point and site utilization, using backtesting, error metrics, and drift monitoring.
  • Develop smart pricing approaches based on market data, forecasts, and events, and simulate them before live rollout.
  • Make and document architectural and modeling decisions, and communicate trade-offs clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Teach and train engineers and analysts in data engineering, analysis, and forecasting methods, through workshops, pair programming, design reviews, and code-quality feedback.
  • Drive AWS and Databricks infrastructure decisions relevant to data delivery, including pipelines and cloud cost awareness.
  • Identify and introduce AI tooling that improves analysis, development productivity, and data quality.

Requirements

  • Already working at Staff Engineer level (or equivalent), with technical leadership demonstrated across teams, and you combine strong engineering depth with analytical rigor.
  • Strong experience with Python and Spark at production scale, and with relational and NoSQL databases and modern table formats such as Delta Lake, Iceberg, or Parquet.
  • Perform complex data analysis and research forecasting models, and evaluate them rigorously rather than trusting the output.
  • Have designed batch and streaming architectures, ideally with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or CDC tools such as Debezium, including delivery semantics and schema evolution.
  • Strong experience with AWS and understand how cloud infrastructure affects data delivery. Kubernetes and Dagster are a plus.
  • AI-keen and actively explore and apply AI tools and techniques in your daily work.
  • Communicate proactively and clearly, in writing and in conversation, and help teams find a shared direction.
  • Experience with e-mobility, energy, or mobility data is a plus.
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus.

We Offer

  • Remote First: Whether you prefer working from home, using co-working spaces across Germany, or being in our modern headquarters in Cologne – we support all working styles.
  • Well equipped: To make sure you have everything you need in your home office, we provide the appropriate hardware. After your probation period, you’ll also receive a budget for ergonomic home office equipment.
  • Flexibility: You can organize your working hours flexibly. With a core working time from 9:00 to 12:00, you have plenty of freedom to balance work and personal life. With our Workation Worldwide program, you can work remotely for up to 60 days per year from anywhere within ±4 hours of the German time zone.
  • Benefits à la carte: With Probonio, you can design your benefits anew every month: Use your budget for meal subsidies, childcare support, vouchers, or book your Urban Sports Club membership – all easily managed via app.
