Starszy Specjalista – Starszy Inżynier Procesu w Laboratorium Diagnostyki Genetycznej i Mikrobiologicznej (K/M)

About the Position

Łukasiewicz – PORT Polski Ośrodek Rozwoju Technologii is seeking a Senior Specialist – Senior Process Engineer in Genetic and Microbiological Diagnostics Laboratory to join our team in Poland, contributing to advanced genomic research.

Responsibilities

• Realization and development of activities related to human genomics within the Genetic and Microbiological Diagnostics Laboratory and the G4PL project "Genomics for Poland".
• Participation in designing, implementing, and overseeing genomic processes including preparation of biological material for next-generation sequencing (NGS), quality control of input material and output data, interpretation of results, and development of quality standards in the laboratory.
• Active collaboration with the laboratory team, bioinformaticians, and G4PL consortium partners in developing, harmonizing, and optimizing genomic analysis processes.
• Daily tasks include managing and overseeing human genomics processes, planning and coordinating the preparation of biological material for genomic analysis, quality control of samples and NGS libraries, interpreting genomic analysis results, and more.

Requirements

• Higher education (master's or doctorate) in medical biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, biology, laboratory diagnostics, or related fields.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the R&D sector related to genomics, molecular genetics, or next-generation sequencing technologies (NGS).
• Participation in at least two R&D projects as an active team member.
• Co-authorship of scientific publications (minimum 5 indexed publications, including at least one in the TOP10% list or industry reports relevant to the Institute's research directions).
• Experience in preparing libraries for sequencing and handling laboratory processes related to NGS.
• Knowledge of molecular biology methods used in genomics, including nucleic acid isolation and quality assessment, PCR/qPCR, and library preparation for both short and long read sequencing.
• Experience in analyzing and interpreting NGS research results.
• Knowledge of the functioning principles of research and diagnostic laboratories, including work in compliance with quality procedures.
• Ability to maintain laboratory and project documentation.
• Independence, meticulousness, responsibility, and ability to organize one's work.
• Experience in conducting R&D projects.
• English language proficiency at least at B1/B2 level enabling scientific communication and use of specialized literature.

Nice to Have

• Experience in collaborating with the economic sector, especially on projects aimed at implementing and commercializing research results.
• Experience working with clinical material and whole human genome sequencing projects (WGS).
• Knowledge of issues related to the interpretation of pathogenic variants (variant calling, annotation, variant classification, reference databases).
• Experience in metagenomic, microbiological, or molecular epidemiology analyses.
• Knowledge of quality standards used in diagnostic laboratories (e.g., PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025, PN-EN ISO 15189).
