About the Position

At HARMAN, we’re not just building software-we’re shaping the future of mobility. As a Software Project Engineer in our Connectivity team, you’ll lead the development of cutting-edge telematics solutions that transform vehicles into intelligent, connected platforms. From 5G to V2X, your work will power the next generation of automotive innovation.

In this role, you’ll serve as the technical lead and customer-facing representative for software development in key telematics domains. You’ll collaborate with global teams to define, develop, and deliver embedded software that meets the highest standards of performance, safety, and reliability.

This position is also a strategic steppingstone toward a future Functional Owner role, where you will be expected to take full ownership of software domains and lead cross-functional project execution from concept to launch.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical interface for customers (JOEMs), representing the software domain team
  • Lead software development and integration for new product development projects
  • Translate customer and system-level requirements into detailed technical specifications
  • Ensure traceability and alignment between system, technical, and customer requirements
  • Create and present system and technical requirement proposals for internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead DFMEA/DRBFM creation and reviews with global teams and customers
  • Estimate development efforts and align features with project milestones
  • Track and manage the full software development lifecycle (V-Model)
  • Coordinate with software project leaders to ensure successful execution
  • Demonstrate leadership and ownership capabilities with the goal of evolving into a Functional Owner role, driving end-to-end responsibility for software domains in future projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in embedded software development (C/C++)
  • 3+ years of experience leading global development teams
  • Strong knowledge of inter-process communication, threading, and socket programming
  • Proficiency in embedded operating systems and debugging tools (e.g., GDB)
  • Fluent in Japanese and business-level English

Nice to Have

  • Experience in automotive software development
  • Understanding of TCP/IP protocols and secure coding practices
  • Familiarity with UML, Agile methodologies (SCRUM, SAFe), and Automotive SPICE® (especially SWE.2)
  • Knowledge in any of the automotive standards like ISO24089, ISO26262, and ISO21434

We Offer

  • We offer an authentic diverse, equal, and inclusive work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development in a truly global organization.
  • You will work on products and services that touch people’s lives and will change the industrial standards, being a part of the transformations in our industry.
  • Our work environments are fast paced, challenging, empowering, collaborative, flexible, and exciting.
  • We offer our own HARMAN University with regular updates on the new technologies and trends by utilizing various sessions organized by Self Learning and Development Trainings to help grow and advance talent.
