About the Position
We're looking for a System Architect (Application Responsible) to join our team in Madrid, Spain, in a hybrid working mode. In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of a critical internal application based on the Actico Rules platform, combining operational accountability with system architecture contributions. You will ensure the application's availability, stability, and compliance with enterprise standards while driving continuous improvement, lifecycle planning, and strategic alignment with target architectures.
This unique position offers a mix of hands-on technical responsibility and architectural decision-making, requiring an ability to collaborate across functional, technical, and infrastructure teams within a highly regulated financial services environment.
Responsibilities
- Take full accountability for application stability, performance, and lifecycle planning
- Serve as the primary contact for operational, functional, and technical queries
- Conduct periodic health checks, performance tuning, and capacity forecasting
- Control and govern application changes, including risk assessments and rollback strategies
- Coordinate with development and infrastructure teams to resolve incidents and implement updates
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive application documentation (runbooks, service catalogs)
- Manage rationalization or decommissioning plans where applicable
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects on enhancements, integrations, and target architectures
- Ensure compliance with IT security baselines, integration standards, and cloud-first principles
- Guide modularization efforts, API exposures, observability frameworks, and migration strategies
- Identify and address technical debt, scalability issues, and modernization opportunities
- Promote service reusability for shared technologies (logging, monitoring, identity management)
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Proven experience managing the operational lifecycle of front/middle-office banking systems
- Proficiency in:
- Application monitoring tools
- Integration patterns (web services, messaging queues, file transfers)
- Database schema design, query tuning, and log analysis
- Source control systems (Git) and ticketing tools (JIRA)
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles, secure design patterns, and Java-based system engineering
- Experience with an IDE for development/debugging and Oracle DB with SQL
- Familiarity with Actico Rules platform operations (Visual Rules experience is a plus)
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in Compliance domain solutions
- Certifications or training on Actico Rules / Visual Rules
- Knowledge of cloud migration and observability toolchains
