About the Position
Technical Cinematic Designer
A Technical Cinematic Designer is a technical role within the Cinematics department that combines expertise in technical implementation with active participation in the creative process. You will contribute to shaping creative ideas by helping identify the best ways to implement them in the game engine. Your primary goal is to create and support cinematic content from a technical perspective, ensuring its stability, optimization, and alignment with the project’s Cinematic Direction.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for the development of cinematic content, including setting up, assembling, and ensuring the stable operation of Unreal Engine 5 systems required by the Cinematics department.
- Assist in developing, optimizing, and implementing efficient production pipelines for creating cinematic content.
- Create, maintain, and update technical documentation describing the architecture, implementation, and technical aspects of cinematic systems.
- Conduct R&D (research and development of new technologies and methods) that can be used in cinematic production to improve visual quality or optimize production processes.
- Independently develop and create working prototypes to validate new technologies and creative concepts in the engine before their full implementation.
- Provide technical evaluation of creative ideas, assessing their compliance with core game principles and technical feasibility, while offering recommendations to mitigate potential risks.
- Collaborate with the Technical Director on the technical implementation of mechanics, aligning systems and ensuring they meet the project’s overall technical standards.
- Identify situations where the engine’s built-in functionality is insufficient and define requirements for the Technical Director and programming team to develop the necessary tools.
- Oversee the quality, structure, and logic of Blueprints and visual scripting used within the project’s cinematic systems.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a Technical Designer, Cinematic Designer, or a similar technical role in the game development industry.
- Strong understanding of game development processes, content integration, and production pipeline creation.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical specifications and documentation.
- Professional proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 and confident experience working with its visual scripting tools (Blueprints).
- Understanding of programming fundamentals and the ability to read and write code to solve non-standard technical challenges.
- Strong troubleshooting and optimization skills.
- Ability to independently conduct R&D and introduce new tools into the production workflow.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with programmers, designers, and artists.
- Ability to transform creative ideas into practical, stable, and scalable technical systems.
Nice to Have
- Programming experience and knowledge of programming languages, particularly C#.
- Experience working with Unreal Engine 5 Sequencer and a solid understanding of cinematic/cutscene production pipelines.
- Experience with 3D software such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max, as well as video editing software.
- Understanding of game system optimization principles in Unreal Engine 5.
- Experience working with version control systems such as Git or Perforce.
