About the Position

Technical Specialist Mechanical Works

DP World is seeking a Technical Specialist Mechanical Works to join our team in Brussels, Belgium. If you are a technical expert with in-depth knowledge of heavy port cranes, mechanical crane systems, and critical components, we want you on board. In this role, you will play a key part in building internal mechanical expertise within our maintenance organization. You will support daily maintenance operations and project teams in renovations, life extensions, modifications, and the installation of new port equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct condition assessments on existing mechanical installations of STS cranes, Automated Stacking Cranes, and other port equipment, translating these into maintenance strategies, life expectancy estimates, and renewal plans per installation group.
  • Validate lubrication specifications, intervals, and the choice of lubricants with suppliers, analyze wear patterns, and use these insights as input for preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Develop scope of works, technical specifications, and design criteria for mechanical implementation works, renovations, life extensions, and new installations, based on OEM documentation and applicable standards such as FEM, EN, and ISO.
  • Validate tenders, studies, and implementation files from contractors and suppliers, review technical drawings, bills of materials, and proposed components, and check critical calculations related to strength, stability, fatigue, load combinations, wheel-rail contact, and crane structures for accuracy and completeness.
  • Supervise inspections, FAT and SAT test procedures, incoming inspections, commissioning, and start-ups of mechanical installations, ensuring complete as-built documentation and follow-up of non-conformities until closure.
  • Analyze failure modes through FMEA/RCA, support root cause analyses for complex or repetitive defects, formulate structural corrective measures, and provide technical input for estimates and decision documents.
  • Monitor relevant technical and regulatory developments, such as FEM, EN 13001, CE marking, and the Machinery Directive, translate these into recommendations for maintenance and renewal, and act as a technical contact point for suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or equivalent experience, with at least 5 years of demonstrable practical experience with heavy lifting or port equipment on the shop floor; experience with STS cranes or Automated Stacking Cranes is a strong asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical crane systems, steel structures, drives, hoisting and trolley mechanisms, wheel and rail systems, lubrication technology, wear analysis, and critical mechanical components from major crane suppliers.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines, including FEM/ISO 4301, EN 13001, CE marking, and the Machinery Directive, and proficiency in reading and evaluating technical drawings, 2D/3D models, P&IDs, bills of materials, and technical files.
  • Experience with supplier and qualification management, FAT/SAT procedures, commissioning, non-conformity follow-up, and CMMS/EAM platforms within a project or maintenance environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, meticulous, independent, flexible, proactive, and safety-conscious; no fear of heights, communicates clearly with various stakeholders in Dutch and English, and works proficiently with Office and technical reporting tools.

We Offer

  • A key role in strengthening internal mechanical expertise within DP World Antwerp.
  • The opportunity to work on renovations, life extensions, modifications, and new port equipment.
  • A challenging position in a unique, high-tech, and asset-intensive port environment on Linkeroever.
  • An attractive salary package with extra-legal benefits (meal vouchers, eco-vouchers, group and hospitalization insurance, car, bonus plan, commuter ticket, etc.).
