About the Position
Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist
Join our team
BRDO - Office of Effective Regulation - is an independent expert and analytical center working on quality changes in public administration, digitalization, regulatory policy, and the development of effective government solutions.
Within the direction of digital transformation and support of critical government and defense products, we are looking for a Technical Writer / Documentation Specialist to work with Delta Wiki.
DELTA is a digital system used in the security and defense sector of Ukraine and helps with data, coordination, and situational awareness. For such products, quality documentation is as important as the functionality itself: users must quickly find answers, understand the logic of the system's work, correctly execute scenarios, and work according to unified standards.
We are looking for a person who will collect information from developers, technical support, and other teams and turn it into understandable instructions, wiki articles, release notes, technical descriptions, and other documentation for users and administrators.
Main Responsibilities
- Create and maintain user documentation: wiki articles, instructions, FAQ, release notes, and other materials.
- Develop and maintain product technology standard descriptions.
- Update existing documentation, improving its accuracy, readability, structure, and relevance to real user scenarios.
- Prepare accompanying technical documentation for system audits: architecture descriptions, administrator instructions, technical references, etc.
- Work closely with the technical support team to better understand user problems, requests, and needs.
- Interact with development teams to gather information about new features, product changes, and improvements to existing functionality.
- Coordinate documentation with the product release cycle.
- Adhere to documentation formatting, structure, and style standards according to its type.
- Help form a unified logic for building Delta Wiki: section structure, article templates, update rules, and content quality approaches.
What is Important to Us
- 2+ years of experience as a technical writer / technical writer in software development.
- Experience in creating user documentation for IT products.
- Understanding of modern approaches to technical writing.
- Experience with style guides, templates, tone of voice, or documentation formatting standards.
- Good knowledge of Ukrainian spelling rules and the ability to write simply, structured, and accurately.
- English language at the Upper Intermediate level or higher.
- Experience with MS Word.
- Experience with technical documentation tools: Confluence, Notion, GitBook, or similar.
- Experience with task management: Jira, Trello, or similar systems.
- Ability to quickly understand complex products, ask the right questions to technical specialists, and turn answers into understandable materials.
- Attention to detail, system thinking, and willingness to work with documentation as a living product that is constantly updated.
Nice to Have
- Experience with docs-as-code and headless CMS.
- Experience in creating documentation for complex software products, systems with many user roles, or critical digital products.
- Experience with military, defense, security, or government digital products.
- Experience as an analyst or coordinator at PUAR/BUAR.
- Experience with distributed embedded systems, industrial automation, energy, logistics automation, fleet, fleet management in automotive, or manufacturing systems.
- Basic skills in Figma: preparing simple diagrams, working with layouts, using visual materials in documentation.
- Experience in writing scripts for training videos, video lessons, review videos, or user onboarding materials.
- Experience in building a knowledge base or wiki from scratch.
- Understanding of information architecture principles, taxonomy, and navigation in documentation.
Tasks in the First Months
- Familiarize yourself with the product, key user scenarios, and the current structure of Delta Wiki.
- Conduct an audit of existing documentation: what is outdated, what is duplicated, what is missing, what is difficult to find or understand.
- Agree with development and support teams on priority sections for updating.
- Describe or update key user instructions.
- Set up basic templates for wiki articles, release notes, administrator instructions, and technical descriptions.
- Build a regular process for updating documentation after releases and product changes.
Who We Are Looking For in Simple Words
We need a person who can dive into a complex IT product, talk to developers and support, extract the necessary information from them, and turn it into understandable, structured, and useful documentation.
This is not a copywriter or text editor role. This is the role of a specialist who helps users work correctly with the product and the team to maintain knowledge, standards, and technical logic in an up-to-date form.
We Offer
- Work on a product that has a real impact on the digital capability of Ukraine's security and defense sector.
- A team that works on complex, important, and meaningful tasks.
- The opportunity to influence the structure of documentation, standards, and the quality of the knowledge base.
- Collaboration with development, technical support, product, and domain experts.
- Flexible collaboration format.
- Competitive compensation based on the candidate's experience.
Work Format
- Full-time.
- Collaboration format: Individual Entrepreneur 3 / official employment.
- We provide accommodation.
- Flexible work format: remote / hybrid, office in the center of Kyiv (Maidan Nezalezhnosti, 2).
Location: Kyiv, Ukraine
