About the Position

Generative Bionics is a deep-tech company building humanoid robot platforms to deploy human-centered Physical AI. We design intelligent, capable machines that work alongside people in real-world environments - developed in Genova, Italy.

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Tools & Machinery Engineer to design, develop, and industrialize the manufacturing equipment, tooling, automation, and production systems required to manufacture our humanoid robotic platforms at scale.

Working across Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation, Quality, and external suppliers, you will transform product designs into robust, scalable manufacturing processes by developing assembly tooling, special-purpose machinery, automated workstations, test equipment, and production lines.

You will contribute throughout the entire product lifecycle, from early Design for Manufacturing (DfM) activities to commissioning and production ramp-up, ensuring manufacturing readiness, process capability, and long-term scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, and Industrialization teams to define manufacturing equipment and tooling requirements from concept through production.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) activities by providing feedback on manufacturability and automation opportunities.
  • Design and develop assembly fixtures, precision jigs, positioning systems, ergonomic tooling, lifting devices, and special-purpose manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop manufacturing equipment for robotic actuator assembly, joint assembly, precision fastening, bearing installation, dispensing, cable routing, calibration, and testing processes.
  • Define production line architectures, assembly workstations, robotic cells, material handling systems, and factory layouts.
  • Lead automation projects involving industrial robots, collaborative robots, machine vision systems, controlled fastening, press-fit systems, dispensing technologies, and automated assembly solutions.
  • Define technical specifications and manage external machine builders, automation integrators, tooling suppliers, and equipment manufacturers throughout design, build, and acceptance.
  • Support the development and integration of Functional Test, Calibration, Burn-in, Leak Test, and End-of-Line (EOL) systems.
  • Coordinate equipment FAT, SAT, commissioning, validation, and manufacturing readiness activities.
  • Define equipment capability targets, cycle time, takt time, ergonomics, maintainability, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment reliability, availability, throughput, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support production ramp-up by troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and implementing corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical background.
  • 5+ years of experience in Tooling Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Automation, or Special Purpose Machine Design.
  • Experience designing manufacturing equipment, assembly tooling, production lines, automated workstations, or robotic manufacturing cells.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and production industrialization within robotics, automotive, aerospace, e-mobility, or other advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, precision assembly, industrial automation, machine design, material handling systems, and industrial safety.
  • Experience with industrial robots, collaborative robots, machine vision systems, controlled fastening, press-fitting, dispensing, and automated assembly technologies.
  • Experience specifying, commissioning, and validating manufacturing equipment, including FAT, SAT, machine capability, and production readiness activities.
  • Experience managing equipment suppliers, automation integrators, and cross-functional technical projects.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, or equivalent), PLM systems, and project management tools.
  • Strong analytical thinking, structured problem solving, supplier management, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Availability to travel nationally and internationally.

Valued Extras

  • Experience in humanoid robotics, collaborative robotics, automation systems, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0, Digital Manufacturing, Digital Twin, AGV/AMR systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), or Smart Factory solutions.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Process Simulate, Tecnomatix, DELMIA, Visual Components, FlexSim, or equivalent manufacturing simulation tools.
  • Experience with PLCs, industrial communication protocols, machine vision, data acquisition, and manufacturing analytics tools such as Power BI.
  • Knowledge of ISO 12100, ISO 10218, ISO 13849, CE Machinery Regulation, and Functional Safety principles.

We Offer

  • The opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge humanoid robotic systems.
  • A stimulating and informal work environment alongside highly skilled technical and research teams.
  • Employment contract under the Italian Metalworking Collective Labor Agreement (CCNL Metalmeccanico), commensurate with experience.
  • Concrete opportunities for professional growth.
