Traffic Engineering Section Lead

About the Position

Our client, a prominent firm in the civil engineering industry, seeks a Traffic Engineering Section Lead to lead and expand their traffic engineering practice in South Carolina. This is a strategic, full-time hybrid role (office + remote) requiring a mid-senior professional with 10+ years of experience and a passion for technical leadership, business development, and team mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Drive business development by securing new projects, writing proposals, and fostering client relationships (including agencies like SCDOT).
• Manage and design traffic engineering projects, such as traffic signal plans, signing/pavement marking plans, crash analysis, and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Oversee budgets, resource allocation, and staff development, including hiring and performance reviews.
• Provide technical expertise in traffic studies, simulations, and design using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate with contractors, government agencies, and stakeholders to deliver compliant, innovative solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited program).
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in South Carolina.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience in traffic engineering design, planning, and analysis.
• Proficiency in traffic software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS) and MS Office.
• In-depth knowledge of SCDOT policies, publications, and practices.
• Strong project management, communication, and client-management skills.

Nice to Have

• Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
• Experience with roadway lighting design and traffic simulation modeling.
• Established network within South Carolina’s transportation sector.
