Trainee Engineer - Traffic signs, Signal, Maintenance

About the Position

We are looking for a Trainee Engineer to join our Traffic Solutions team and develop the skills required to maintain, repair, and commission traffic signal systems and associated equipment across the Urban portfolio. This role is based from our Birmingham Depot, supporting the delivery of our Black Country contract.

Responsibilities

• Support the installation, maintenance, fault-finding, and commissioning of traffic control equipment.
• Ensure that traffic signals and related roadside technology remain safe, reliable, and operational for road users.
• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance activities, respond to faults, and complete accurate work records.
• Work on a variety of traffic systems, including signal equipment, controllers, cabling, and associated infrastructure.

Requirements

• Essential:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics, and Science.
  • Full UK MANUAL Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical engineering skills.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, organized, and safety-conscious approach to work.

• Desirable:

  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Electrical or electronic background.
  • Qualification in Electrical or Electronic subjects.
  • Previous experience within traffic signals, electrical engineering, highways, or a similar technical environment.
  • Experience using tools, test equipment, or carrying out practical engineering activities.
  • IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
