Make an impact as a trainee

Risk management is essential to safeguard ING’s future. The Risk traineeship at ING has a broad scope and covers the management of, for example, credit risk, risk culture & behavioural risk, non financial risk and compliance risk.

The findings from the analysis you perform, mainly on behalf of Retail and Wholesale Banking, will influence our company results and the risks we are prepared to take. Therefore, you need to have a strong sense of self-belief and stand behind your decisions.

Responsibilities

  • First Year Rotations: Choose your first rotation based on your interest and learning goals, lasting approximately six months.
  • Group Assignments: Work with fellow trainees from other tracks on a group assignment to tackle a business challenge.
  • Second Rotation: Address your network and take the initiative to arrange your second rotation, with an option for international experience.
  • Third Rotation: Choose your third rotation to deepen your knowledge and hone your skills in a specific area of Risk.
  • Sustainability Contributions: Contribute to ING’s sustainability goals through one of your rotations or a group assignment on a sustainability-related topic.

Requirements

  • Master degree from a university focused on the non-financial side of Risk, such as law.
  • Interest in financial services, an innovative take on banking, and a drive to turn ideas into reality.
  • (International) experience through various extracurricular activities.
  • Enthusiastic with a focus on the interests of customers and colleagues.

Training and Coaching

  • HR trainee manager coaching during three rotations.
  • Opportunities to reach out to line managers or senior managers for mentorship.
  • Personal sessions with an external coach after graduation.
  • Participation in two Global Trainee events focused on professional and personal skills.
  • Various virtual trainee days throughout the year.

We Offer

  • Gross monthly salary of €3.943 (based on 40/h week).
  • 13th month salary.
  • 8% Holiday payment.
  • 216 hours of holiday per year based on a 40 hour working week.

Interview Schedule

There are two interview rounds for the selection process of the October 2026 class. The recruiter will communicate which interview round you are invited to. If you want to be considered for the first selection round, make sure to apply on time. Please note that all interviews will take place at our headquarters in Amsterdam.

Round 1 – May/June 2026

  • HR Interviews: 18 May - 22 May
  • Business Panels: 1 June - 5 June

Round 2 – June/July 2026

  • HR Interviews: 29 June - 3 July
  • Business Panels: 13 July - 17 July

We have a limited number of positions for this traineeship and we will close the vacancy when the available spots are filled for October 2026.

Please note that the results will remain definite for a future application for one of our traineeships. This means that you cannot apply again after not passing either our assessment or interview stage.
