About the Position

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently employing over 800 staff in Ukraine and implementing emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors.

DRC is currently looking for a Translator in Mykolaiv.

Responsibilities

The Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) Translator/Interpreter will provide high-quality translation and interpretation support to national and international DRC staff, government counterparts, and other stakeholders. The role includes:

  • Providing verbal interpretation between national and international staff, government representatives, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensuring accurate and confidential interpretation during individual and group meetings, training sessions, and operational briefings.
  • Preparing written translations of documents from Ukrainian and/or Russian into English and vice versa.
  • Interpreting training materials, tools, and communications for HMA/HDP courses.
  • Joining HMA/HDP mobile teams and deploying to operational field locations when required.
  • Performing driving duties, including transportation of Technical Advisors (TA) and Technical Field Manager (TFM).
  • Ensuring communication with OPS room and Area South Safety sector.
  • Performing daily maintenance according to the driver’s manual and reporting any problems to DRC HDP TFM and DRC South Fleet Team.
  • Responding to urgent interpretation requests in coordination with the line manager.
  • Acting in the interest of beneficiaries, ensuring respectful and sensitive communication.
  • Ensuring adherence to the DRC Code of Conduct and safeguarding principles.
  • Ensuring adherence to DRC Fleet, Safety, and HMA Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Carrying out any other tasks assigned by the line manager in support of DRC’s operational objectives.

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Translation (qualification: Translator).
  • Advanced proficiency (C1–C2) in English and Ukrainian; Russian is an asset.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid driving license category B with at least 3 years of driving experience and solid knowledge of Ukrainian traffic regulations.
  • High professional ethics and understanding of confidentiality principles.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a translator/interpreter with an HMA INGO.

We Offer

  • Contract length: 3 month probation period, with the possibility of extension based on funding and satisfactory performance.

  • Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv
  • Start date: 8th July 2026
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contracts.
