Trauma Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) - PRN

About the Position

We are seeking a Trauma Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) - PRN to join our team at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. This role is integral to the medical management and coordination of care for patients under the Trauma Acute Care Surgery Service. The APP works under the supervision of the attending general surgeon, applying clinical expertise and professional judgment in accordance with institutional protocols, physician preferences, and Michigan state law.

Responsibilities

• Medical Management and Coordination: Responsible for the medical management and coordination of care for Trauma Acute Care Surgery patients under the supervision of the attending general surgeon.
• Trauma Resuscitations: Assists in trauma resuscitations and performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks throughout the patient’s hospital stay.
• Documentation: Conducts history and physical exams, admission notes, and daily progress notes.
• Committee Participation: Attends at least 50% of Trauma Performance Improvement Committee meetings.
• Night Call Coverage: Provides night call coverage and participates in trauma and critical care patient management.
• Critical Care Assistance: Assists with the Surgical Critical Care service under intensivist supervision for critically ill patients, including neurocritical and stroke patients.
• Collaboration: Works collaboratively with the attending Emergency Physician during trauma resuscitations until the attending General Surgeon takes lead.

Requirements

• Education: Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies.
• Experience: General Surgery experience is preferred but not required. Previous experience in primary care, ICU, or emergency setting is desirable.
• Certifications:
  • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
  • Current ACLS, PALS, ENPC, or APLS, BLS, and ATLS
  • Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS)
  • Virtual Critical Care Rounds II (VCCR): Adult by the Society of Critical Care Medicine
  • Advanced Practice Provider Orientation Course
  • Emergency Neurological Life Support Certification by Neuro Critical Care Society
