UI Engineer 5 - Studio Foundation Apps Engineering

The Studio Foundation Apps Engineering team at Netflix is building a next-generation media review and collaboration platform to support global feature films and television series production. The team develops a robust, cross-platform, high-performance system managing thousands of work-in-progress media files annually. They focus on delivering a secure, high-fidelity playback experience with DRM, multi-factor authentication, and visual watermarking, solving complex engineering challenges through a hybrid cross-platform architecture to provide system-native performance such as offline video playback and annotation. The team owns the entire content lifecycle from media ingestion, processing, and packaging to implementing collaboration features tightly integrated with the Studio's internal systems, enhancing media interaction during production. The team is internationally diverse with members from various educational backgrounds and roles including product managers, designers, developers, and data scientists.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, backend, and UI engineers to build intuitive user interfaces.
• Partner with users to understand needs and determine solutions.
• Identify business opportunities to positively impact the organization.
• Embrace and promote best practices for continuous improvement.
• Work flexibly across the stack and support teammates.
• Lead resolution of complex problems and strategic projects across functions.
• Implement sustainable solutions to optimize system efficiency, quality, and performance.
• Leverage AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development.
• Evaluate new AI-driven development tools to enhance team productivity.
• Work cross-functionally to build, test, deploy, and launch scalable UIs.
• Participate in product reviews and team meetings, providing technical insights.
• Scope, estimate, and prioritize between competing product needs.
• Evaluate new technologies to improve rapid application development tooling and conventions.
• Continuously learn and contribute to evolving Netflix platform systems and tools.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews.
• Communicate complex technical issues and solutions effectively to stakeholders.
• Apply engineering best practices to guide projects and mentor team members.
• Uphold company values and promote an inclusive team environment.

Requirements

• Passionate and knowledgeable about UI engineering and related technologies.
• Experience building enterprise applications with React, TypeScript, React-Native, and internal UI frameworks.
• Familiarity with backend services built primarily with Java Spring Boot, using GraphQL and gRPC.
• Experience or knowledge of media processing pipelines, transcoding, DRM systems, or cloud-based media services such as AWS Elemental is a plus.
• Familiarity with storage and metadata services like S3 and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions is beneficial.
• Strong sense of ownership, independence, initiative, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to recognize, communicate, and lead technical improvements in UI engineering best practices.
• Ability to influence and inform architectural decisions while encouraging diverse perspectives and constructive challenges.
