Job description
About the Position
Join SE3 Labs as a UI/UX Software Engineer
Design and build intuitive, high-performance interfaces for autonomous systems, turning complex operational capabilities into software that people can use confidently in the real world.
About SE3
SE3 Labs builds spatial intelligence and autonomy software for unmanned systems. We combine 3D computer vision, state estimation, and AI to help autonomous platforms perceive their surroundings, know where they are, and operate when GPS and other sensors become unreliable. Defence is a core application of our work today.
We are growing to a team of 100+ people. Join at a stage where you can shape our future, help us build the team, and grow your responsibilities as the company expands.
Our founding team’s research has received more than 90,000 citations. You will work closely with technical founders and engineers with deep experience in computer vision and autonomous systems, turning that research depth into systems that work in the field.
Responsibilities
- Coherent UI System & Front-End Architecture: Design and build a modular, well-structured front-end and a consistent design language that spans our whole product range. Make it easy to add new plugins and features, and to run on different systems and devices, without losing consistency or maintainability.
- UX/UI Design & Implementation: Work with the team to understand user needs, design and wireframe interfaces, and turn them into working software. Own both the user experience and the code that brings it to life.
- Multi-Device & Performance: Build interfaces that adapt across small screens, tablets, and large displays, and stay responsive on resource-constrained hardware. Identify bottlenecks, optimize rendering, and deliver a smooth experience without relying on high-end devices.
- 3D Visualisation Integration: Integrate 3D visualisations into the user interface so that they work smoothly alongside other features, including on devices with limited computing resources.
- Plugin & Feature Interfaces: Build reusable UI components for different plugins and product features, so that third parties and internal teams can extend the platform in a consistent way.
- Usability for Operational Environments: Help design interfaces for military personnel working in demanding conditions. Consider intuitive workflows, clear information hierarchy, and established conventions such as NATO symbology. Learn from real user feedback and improve continuously.
- Collaboration & Product Evolution: Work closely with the software team to understand customer needs and translate them into design and engineering decisions. Help shape how the interface evolves as the product grows, and look for ways to simplify workflows and make new capabilities easier to understand.
Requirements
- Enjoy building a coherent system rather than a single screen: one design language and one component structure that works across many plugins, systems, and devices.
- Bring hands-on experience designing and implementing user interfaces for software products, with a focus on intuitive, usable experiences across different devices and screen sizes.
- Have built structured, responsive, and maintainable front-end applications, not just static designs or isolated prototypes, and know how to organize code into reusable components and modular structures.
- Can move between UX/UI design and software development, turning wireframes and requirements into working interfaces and making informed decisions about both usability and implementation.
- Care about performance as well as appearance, and work methodically to improve the experience across different hardware.
- Work well with engineers and other stakeholders, explore different approaches, and turn ideas into practical solutions.
- Take initiative, enjoy open-ended problems, and want to help build and shape a product rather than maintain an established interface.
- Are interested in software for real-world use, where clarity, reliability, and ease of use matter as much as visual design.
- Are happy to work on-site with the team in Munich.
Nice to Have
- 3D Visualisation: Experience integrating interactive 3D visualisations into software interfaces, particularly using Unreal Engine or similar technologies.
- Performance on Constrained Hardware: Experience optimizing front-end applications for low-compute devices, limited resources, or demanding real-time requirements.
- Complex Operational Interfaces: Experience designing interfaces for complex systems where users need to interpret spatial information, symbols, or multiple sources of information quickly.
- Gaming or Real-Time Visualisation: Experience in 3D gaming, motorsport, simulation, or other fields where responsive interfaces and real-time visual feedback are important.
- Building from Scratch: Experience establishing a front-end architecture, reusable component system, or coherent design language for a new product or platform.
We Offer
