About the Position
We are seeking a VFX Artist with a gamer’s mindset. Someone who not only contributes technically but actively understands and values the player experience. This role requires a strong product orientation, combining technical expertise with creative sensibility to design and implement visual effects that elevate gameplay while navigating real-time engine constraints.
You will contribute directly to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise and play a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of upcoming GSC Game World projects, including future installments of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.
Responsibilities
- Author VFX assets across all production phases, from initial concept to final polish and optimization
- Optimize effects for performance targets and platform constraints while keeping visuals as much as possible
- Identify and resolve technical or performance bottlenecks in VFX production
- Integrate VFX assets into Unreal Engine 5 pipelines and content structures
- Represent the VFX function in cross-disciplinary meetings with clarity and confidence, aiming for collaboration and aligned to the Domain’s vision
- Support R&D efforts by prototyping new VFX, improving pipelines and workflows, and documenting findings for team-wide adoption
Requirements
- Strong collaboration mindset and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
- Clear and proactive communicator with fluent or functionally clear spoken and written English
- Minimum 2 years of experience crafting high-quality real-time VFX for games, spanning realistic to abstract styles
- Possess a strong artistic eye with the ability to apply visual design principles to functional, gameplay-driven VFX creation
- Proficient in some key VFX creation tools such as: Houdini, Maya, 3ds Max, Substance, Photoshop, Embergen, Blender, etc…
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing effects in Unreal Engine 4 or 5
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5’s Niagara Scratchpad for advanced VFX authoring
- Background in developing AAA action or first-person shooter titles
- Familiarity with one or more scripting or programming languages used in VFX workflows
Work Format
This position offers flexible location options:
- Office-based in Prague, Czechia or Kyiv, Ukraine
- Hybrid within either of those cities or their countries
- Fully remote, provided availability aligns with a Europe-based working schedule
