Backbase introduces Delivery Factory

We opened the doors of our Business Development Centre (BDC) in the heart of Hyderabad in December 2020. Young at heart, the BDC is a wonderful space that strengthens Backbase’s presence in the APAC region. The physical presence of great talent and support also makes way for long-term relationships with customers.

Nestled in the middle of Hyderabad, the state-of-the-art building sits amidst other global brands. The location offers stunning views of hills and lakes, while nearby there is a selection of restaurants, traditional bazaars, and other cultural hotspots.

Responsibilities

As VP Engineering, you own engineering excellence for our product development organisation globally, with Hyderabad as your primary stage. You will:

• Set and enforce global standards for engineering practice and Secure SDLC - what ships, what gets blocked, and how quality and predictability are measured across product teams.
• Be the lighthouse for the Hyderabad superhub: raise the local hiring and performance bar, build Staff+ talent density, and make the hub a visible benchmark for craft and accountability across Engineering.
• Own the engineering career framework and learning paths with engineering leadership so progression, calibration, and technical depth are consistent worldwide - and unmistakably strong in Hyderabad.
• Act with clear bar authority: advise product engineering leaders on architecture, quality, and delivery, and escalate or stop work when standards, security, or craft are at risk.
• Partner with Engineering Operations on developer experience, CI/CD, and AI-assisted workflows so tooling reinforces the bar rather than bypasses it.
• Scale excellence through chapters, mentorship, and targeted enablement - only where it hardens standards and talent, not as theatre.

Requirements

• We need a high-caliber engineering leader who has raised the bar in large, multi-site organisations - and who wants Hyderabad to be their proof point. You combine deep technical credibility with the backbone to reset culture where “yes” has outrun “done.”
• 10+ years of engineering leadership, with a proven record raising standards across organisations of 500+ engineers in multiple locations.
• Track record of hard resets: hiring bar, performance calibration, architecture/quality gates, and holding delivery pressure accountable to craft - not just running guilds or frameworks.
• Hands-on enough to pair in code and credible across web, mobile, and backend when guiding engineers and architects.
• Strong product sense: UX, business logic, and non-functionals - you know what good looks like end-to-end.
• Demonstrated ownership of career frameworks, engineering standards, and Secure SDLC in financial services or other regulated environments.
• Experience building or transforming a major engineering hub (or equivalent multi-site centre of excellence) - attracting senior talent and making that site a magnet, not a cost centre.
• Driven AI adoption in real product development, with judgment about where it raises quality and where it does not.
• A clear communicator who can set a vision, say no with reasons, and rally leaders around shared standards and commitments.
