Associate Structural Engineering Technician - Overhead Transmission

About the Position

We are seeking an Associate Structural Engineering Technician - Overhead Transmission to join our team at Black & Veatch Family of Companies. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting Grid projects such as Overhead Transmission Line. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support advanced industrial and commercial facilities.

Responsibilities

• Supports engineering teams under general supervision
• Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
• Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
• Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
• Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians
• Stays current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures
• Applies knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
• Uses and expands applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures
• Creates and develops project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs
• Performs basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
• Coordinates deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences
• Supports internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers
• Proactively seeks out, shares, and applies knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes

Requirements

• Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience.
• All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.

Preferred Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate preferred.
• Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

Salary Plan

• Hourly compensation range: $27.85 - $48.72
