Backend Developer

About the Position

We’re looking for a senior backend developer who genuinely enjoys building things that work - cleanly, reliably, and at scale. You’ll lead server-side development across web applications and SaaS platforms, owning everything from the data model to the deployment. We work in small teams, which means real ownership and real impact.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement REST API endpoints following clean architecture principles
• Build and maintain data models, migrations, and database schema
• Implement complex business logic in dedicated service layers
• Configure authentication, authorization, queues, notifications, and scheduled tasks
• Write and maintain automated tests (unit and feature level)
• Produce and maintain API documentation (Swagger / OpenAPI or Postman collections)
• Set up and maintain deployments on cloud platforms
• Manage caching and session layers
• Implement real-time features where required
• Participate in sprint planning and code reviews

Experience

• 5+ years of backend development experience
• Deep knowledge of at least one major server-side framework (e.g. Laravel, Node.js/Express, Django)
• Strong SQL skills - query optimization, indexing, migrations
• Experience with caching and queue systems (e.g. Redis)
• Solid understanding of REST API design and authentication patterns (tokens, OAuth)
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests
• Comfortable producing API documentation for frontend and external consumers

Nice to Have

• Experience with full-stack frameworks that bridge backend and frontend (e.g. Inertia.js)
• Knowledge of WebSocket / real-time server implementations
• Exposure to multi-tenant architecture patterns
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Relevant framework or cloud certifications are a plus
• Fluent in English; French is a plus
