About the Position

Contractor, Senior Application Engineer

ING Bank is seeking a Senior Application Engineer with strong Java development skills and Linux/Unix expertise to join our team in New York, NY, USA. This role requires a hands-on engineer to work closely with business stakeholders, architecture teams, infrastructure teams, and fellow engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and implement enhancements for regional business applications.
Provide 2nd line production support for business-critical applications, including incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
Develop and maintain relevant services, APIs, and integrations.
Support applications and perform operational troubleshooting.
Create, enhance, and/or maintain relevant scripts/programs to automate operational and support activities.
Analyze application logs, system metrics, and monitor data to proactively identify issues and improve platform stability.
Participate in software deployments, release activities, and change management processes.
Collaborate with infrastructure, database, cybersecurity, and business teams to deliver solutions and/or resolve production issues.
Implement application improvements to enhance performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
Ensure adherence to engineering standards, secure coding practices, and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
5+ years of experience developing and supporting enterprise applications.

Java (Spring/Spring Boot preferred)
Apache Tomcat
SQL and database development
PowerShell and automation scripting
Linux (RHEL)/Unix environments, including Bash/Shell scripting
Application support & production troubleshooting

IBM MQ / Enterprise Messaging
Azure DevOps / CI-CD pipelines
SWIFT messaging
DTCC connectivity
File-based integrations (CSV/XML)
Authentication technologies (LDAP, Active Directory, SAML/OIDC/Entra ID)
Financial Markets domain experience
- Securities and Trade lifecycle processing
- Regulatory reporting
- Exception management and reconciliation
- Front-office to back-office integration flows
