Data Governance & Incident Analyst
Duration: 6-month contract with possibility of extension
Location: Toronto, ON
Work Model: Hybrid – 4 day onsite

We are seeking a hands-on Data Governance & Incident Analyst to support the monitoring, coordination, investigation, and resolution of data-related incidents across business and technology teams.
This role sits at the intersection of data governance, data quality, production support, and technical data analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with business users, data owners, data providers, application support teams, and technology teams to ensure data incidents are properly triaged, assigned, investigated, tracked, and resolved within expected timelines.
The ideal candidate combines strong stakeholder coordination skills with practical experience using SQL, Python, AWS data services, ServiceNow, Tableau, and data-governance concepts such as metadata, data ownership, and data quality.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage data-related incidents from identification through resolution.
- Ensure incidents are assigned to the appropriate support team, data owner, or technical owner and actively track progress and outstanding actions.
- Act as a liaison between business users, data providers, application support teams, data teams, and technology teams to facilitate timely issue resolution.
- Coordinate and participate in incident triage discussions to clarify business impact, dependencies, ownership, and next steps.
- Investigate data-quality issues and discrepancies, including identifying upstream and downstream dependencies and working with the appropriate teams to determine root cause.
- Use SQL and data-analysis tools to validate data, investigate discrepancies, and support incident troubleshooting.
- Review incident trends, maintain accurate incident records, and support reporting on metrics such as volume, aging, resolution status, and recurring issues.
- Track incident ownership, blockers, and resolution progress and escalate where necessary to support SLA compliance.
- Provide clear and concise incident-status updates to stakeholders and help drive agreement on resolution plans.
- Support data-governance processes, including:
- Data product ownership mapping
- Data owner and steward coordination
- Metadata maintenance
- Data-quality monitoring
- Business-readiness activities
- Coordinate production and development-environment activities related to incident resolution.
- Support validation of fixes, data loads, testing, and post-resolution checks.
- Assist with UAT, production validation, and issue/defect tracking when required.
- Maintain documentation, procedures, playbooks, and operating processes for incident and data-governance activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve incident-management workflows, reporting, controls, and recurring issue resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Data Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 1+ year of relevant experience in one or more of the following: Data governance, Data quality, Data operations, Production support, Incident management, Business systems analysis.
- Hands-on experience with data-quality investigation, data validation, or production data issues.
- Experience coordinating issues or incidents across multiple business and technical teams.
- Strong understanding of data governance concepts, including:
- Data owners
- Data stewards
- Metadata
- Data lineage
- Data quality
- Data ownership/accountability
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple incidents, priorities, owners, and follow-ups simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear status updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate incident and governance records.

- Familiarity with Agile delivery, Jira, Confluence, UAT, and defect management.

Pay range is 28-30/hr Without Benefits
