Java Developer - Capital Markets

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Backend Developer to join a high-performing technology team supporting critical Canada Markets platforms, including Equities, Fixed Income, and Mortgages. The successful candidate will design, develop, modernize, and support scalable enterprise applications while contributing to platform upgrades, technical debt reduction, production stability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise applications across Canada Markets platforms.
• Build scalable and reliable backend solutions using Java and modern backend technologies.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs, microservices, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Contribute to application modernization initiatives, including JDK and library upgrades and cloud adoption.
• Identify and remediate technical debt, security vulnerabilities, and legacy application issues.
• Support production applications, troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, and drive issues through resolution.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Business Stakeholders, Infrastructure teams, and Application Support teams to ensure reliable delivery.
• Participate in performance tuning, system optimization, and application stability improvements.
• Contribute to automation of operational processes and improvements to development and release workflows.
• Follow secure coding practices and organizational standards for risk, audit, and compliance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across development, testing, deployment, and production support processes.
• Leverage modern development tools, including AI-assisted development technologies and observability/monitoring frameworks.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on software development experience in enterprise environments.
• Strong programming experience with Java or similar backend technologies.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and integration patterns.
• Experience with Git and modern version-control practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and structured software delivery environments.
• Experience with automated testing and quality-focused development practices.
• Hands-on experience with application upgrades, code remediation, and technical debt reduction.
• Understanding of secure coding principles and vulnerability remediation.
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving production issues.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with Capital Markets applications or platforms.
• Exposure to one or more of the following areas:
• Experience working within regulated financial services environments.
• Understanding of risk, audit, security, and compliance expectations.
• Experience or exposure to:
  • Platform modernization initiatives.
  • JDK and third-party library upgrades.
  • Cloud adoption and application modernization.
  • AWS or Azure.
  • Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Performance tuning and system optimization.
  • Observability, application monitoring, and production health frameworks.

• Competitive salary range: $80/Hr - $90/Hr, depending on experience, skills, and internal equity.
