About the Role
The MAI Group is an agency group with eight digital agencies and around 350 experts. Our Business Area Strategy & Research is the strategic-analytical core of the group. It combines strategy consulting (formerly Strategy & Consulting) and market research (formerly Research & Intelligence) under a single leadership to more closely integrate strategy development and in-depth market insights. We support clients with growth, market, and AI strategies in the context of digital transformation and make the business benefits of AI tangible. To scale this unit as a central strategic driver of the group, we are looking for a strong leader as Director Strategy & Research (all genders), preferably with experience as a Head of Strategy or Department Head.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development: You will lead the entire core team of both chapters, bring together strategy and research expertise organizationally, and be responsible for strategic skill planning and recruiting.
- Scaling the Offering Portfolio: You will continuously develop our portfolio, moving away from purely project-based consulting towards scalable, AI-supported offerings, leveraging the integration of strategic consulting and research as a differentiator.
- Strategic Anchor & Interface: You will be the strategic contact person for our agency units. You will ensure that Strategy & Research forms the upstream, strategic anchor for our agency services and feeds qualified demand into the delivery units, supported by market insights from our own research team.
- P&L & Business Growth: You will manage the revenue and profit of the unit. Your focus will be on optimizing utilization, increasing EBITDA, and sustainable revenue growth.
- Thought Leadership & Market Position: You will make the MAI Group visible as a thought leader. Through publications, speeches, and foresight formats, you will sharpen our market position and generate new leads through thought leadership.
- Group Sparring: You will work closely with the Business Unit Lead, as well as the CEO and CFO, supporting the group strategy and acting as a subject matter expert for topics such as the group-wide AI transformation.
Requirements
- Experience: Several years of disciplinary leadership experience in strategy consulting, research, or a knowledge-based business, ideally in an agency, consulting, or PE environment.
- AI Strategy Competence: You not only master the application of tools but also have the ability to translate AI potentials into business models and customer strategies. You can bridge the gap between tech and business.
- Business & Sales Drive: You have a strong P&L mentality and an understanding of profitable offering structures.
- Mindset & Ownership: You think entrepreneurially, take proactive responsibility, and have the drive to actively drive things forward and go beyond the goal.
- Communication Skills: You are a skilled translator between analysis and implementation, as well as between design, tech, and business. You can convince at the C-level and simplify complex content.
Nice to Have
- Methodology & Facilitation: You can confidently guide clients and teams through complex strategy processes and lead methodologically strong workshops. Experience in publications or speeches to actively strengthen our position as experts in the market is desirable.
