Electrical Specialist Engineer - Power Plant / Waste to Energy Plant

Location: Tuen Mun

The Electrical Specialist Engineer’s main function is to ensure that the power systems in the Waste to Energy plant are operated and maintained in a stable and safe way with the local teams.

Responsibilities

• Providing technical advice/expertise to the local teams
• Diagnosing electrical faults, conducting root cause analysis, and performing necessary repairs to restore operations quickly and safely
• Analyzing Commtrade Files in case of fault events (such as island mode)
• Analyzing single line diagrams and electrical schematics during troubleshooting and maintenance
• Providing recommendations to the management and operations team(s)
• Liaising with vendors, operations, and maintenance teams in the planning of power system maintenance
• High voltage maintenance shutdown planning and coordination, including isolation planning
• Updating maintenance procedures, and preparing new procedures as required

Requirements

• Electrical engineer with at least 5+ (preferably 10) years of experience in power plant/waste to energy plant with high voltage power generation.
• Having completed a relevant apprenticeship and an electrical engineering degree.
• Hands-on approach to system monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance planning.
• Hands-on experience with technical support for power system faults and trips.
• Demonstrated experience in high voltage system maintenance, equipment operation, including circuit breakers, transformers, generators, and switchgear.
• Demonstrated experience writing switching programs for high voltage operators, checking and approving isolation plans for maintenance activities.
• Hands-on experience performing High Voltage switching, wearing an arc-flash suit, and performing switching such as isolation, issuing permits, and re-energisation after maintenance.
• Experience with Protection Relays (e.g., Schneider Relays P132, P143) is a plus.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be fluent in English to read and understand existing design documentation.
• Strong focus on safety.
• Leadership skills, able to lead and coach an existing team of technicians/engineers.
• Able to lead calmly while working under pressure, i.e., after equipment trips.
• Experience providing after-hours technical support for power systems fault investigation and restoration.
