Fractional AI Technical Lead (Java Backend)

About the Position

We're looking for an AI Solution Architect to lead the design of enterprise-grade AI solutions that solve real business challenges across e-commerce and digital commerce.

This is a strategic, hands-on role for someone who combines deep software architecture expertise with practical experience building AI-powered systems. You'll work closely with clients, engineering teams, and company leadership to design scalable AI architectures, identify high-impact use cases, and drive AI adoption across customer-facing products and internal engineering processes.

You'll play a key role in shaping Dinarys' AI practice by defining architectural standards, evaluating emerging technologies, and helping both our clients and engineering teams successfully leverage Generative AI, AI Agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and modern cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end AI solution architectures for ecommerce and digital commerce products.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable AI solutions.
• Identify high-impact AI use cases across customer experience, operations, content, search, merchandising, analytics, and internal processes.
• Design architectures involving LLMs, AI Agents, RAG, vector databases, and modern AI infrastructure.
• Evaluate and recommend AI technologies, models, frameworks, and providers based on quality, cost, security, and scalability.
• Collaborate with software engineers to ensure successful implementation of architectural decisions.
• Create architecture diagrams, technical documentation, ADRs, and implementation guidelines.
• Define best practices for AI integration, governance, monitoring, and security.
• Participate in technical discovery sessions with clients and support solution proposals.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in Solution Architecture, Software Architecture, or Senior Software Engineering.
• Commercial experience designing and delivering AI-powered solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, messaging, databases, and cloud-native architectures.
• Proven experience leading the architecture and delivery of production-grade Java backend systems.
• Strong understanding of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI Agents, prompt engineering, and modern AI workflows.
• Experience integrating AI services from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or open-source models.
• Understanding of MCP (Model Context Protocol) and modern agent-based architectures is a strong advantage.
• Experience designing cloud-native and microservice architectures.
• Solid understanding of APIs, system integrations, authentication, and scalable backend architecture.
• Experience working with international clients and participating in technical discovery sessions.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking.
• Proven experience introducing AI tools and AI-enabled SDLC practices across an engineering organization, not only within individual projects.
• Experience defining adoption strategies, engineering guidelines, security guardrails, training programs, and measurable success criteria for organizational AI initiatives.
• Technical leadership experience, including architecture ownership, mentoring, code review standards, and coordination across engineering teams.
• Upper-Intermediate English or higher.

Nice to Have

• Experience in ecommerce or retail technology.
• Experience with Shopify, Adobe Commerce (Magento), commercetools, BigCommerce, or other commerce platforms.
• Knowledge of AI evaluation frameworks, observability, and LLMOps.
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Familiarity with Computer Vision, recommendation systems, forecasting, or personalization engines.
• AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud certifications.
