About the Position

Global Head of Security Detection and Response

As Global Head of Security Detection & Response (SDR), you will lead one of the most critical cybersecurity capabilities within ING’s Global CISO organization. At a time when cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated, regulatory expectations are increasing, and digital transformation continues to accelerate, you will play a pivotal role in protecting ING, its customers, and its reputation. You will shape the future of threat detection and response by driving innovation, leveraging advanced technologies such as AI and machine learning, and ensuring the bank can rapidly identify, contain, and recover from cybersecurity threats and incidents. This is a unique opportunity to influence ING’s global security strategy while leading a highly visible function at the forefront of cyber defense.

Responsibilities

  • Translate Global Cyber Security strategy into an SDR strategy and roadmap, driving execution, transformation, and transparent progress reporting.
  • Ensure the effectiveness, resilience, and continuous evolution of SDR services, processes, and capabilities to address emerging threats, risks, regulatory requirements, and technology trends.
  • Embed security into ING’s business and technology strategy, enabling secure innovation and sustainable growth.
  • Lead a global organization of Product Owners, Process Managers, and Service Managers, fostering a high-performing culture through talent development, coaching, and leadership excellence.
  • Act as Chief Product Owner for global SDR services, driving service adoption, standardization, and value realization across ING.
  • Foster an agile and collaborative operating model, promoting cross-functional alignment, innovation, and continuous improvement across tribes, squads, and chapters.
  • Manage strategic partners and third-party providers, ensuring strong performance, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and delivery of measurable business value.
  • Own the SDR portfolio, budget, and investment priorities, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to reduce cyber risk and maximize value delivery.
  • Drive measurable risk reduction by defining strategic objectives, key performance indicators, and outcomes aligned with ING’s risk appetite, security priorities, and operational resilience objectives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10–15 years of leadership experience in cybersecurity, information security, fraud management, or related disciplines, ideally gained within large, complex organizations and/or top-tier consulting environments.
  • Recognized subject matter expertise in cybersecurity, supported by professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent. Additional certifications (e.g., CISA or domain-specific security certifications) are considered an advantage.
  • Proven experience establishing, transforming, and operating security services and capabilities, including security monitoring, threat detection, incident response, crisis management, threat intelligence, and security operations.
  • Strong understanding of security data analytics, detection engineering, AI/ML-driven security use cases, and emerging cybersecurity technologies and trends.
  • Demonstrated success in defining strategic roadmaps and leading large-scale transformation initiatives, delivering measurable business and risk reduction outcomes.
  • Strong financial and operational management skills, including portfolio management, budgeting, investment prioritization, and value realization.
  • Good understanding of applicable cybersecurity laws, regulations, risk management frameworks, and regulatory expectations within a regulated industry.
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop high-performing multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration across organizational and geographical boundaries while driving accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a successful track record of engaging executives, board-level stakeholders, regulators, and external partners.
  • Strong strategic mindset and analytical decision-making capability, able to simplify complexity, challenge constructively, make data-driven decisions, and lead through change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience within a highly regulated environment (e.g., financial services, critical infrastructure, telecommunications, healthcare, or similar) is considered a strong advantage.

We Offer

  • Flexible work model combining remote and on-site work at ING MAD.
  • Restaurant card for lunch convenience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health and life insurance for you and your family.
  • Flexible remuneration model with additional services such as nursery, transport card, and training aids.
