Grid Solutions R&D Senior Primary Engineer - IDC

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Grid Solutions R&D Senior Primary Engineer to join our team in Chennai, India. This role involves designing and improving electrical grid solutions, ensuring compliance with quality standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the design authority for engineering activities on projects of low to medium complexity.
• Support the Project Manager for any technical issues.
• Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) with customers for engineering activities, participating in customer meetings and improving customer experience.
• Lead, supervise, and coordinate the engineering project team, ensuring processes are applied and scaling is agreed upon with the Engineering Manager.
• Conduct engineering project reviews, report progress and cost-to-complete, and establish contacts with suppliers for technical support.
• Ensure deliveries are made as per schedule and carry out regular reviews.
• Coach and develop project engineers/designers, planning skill development needs.
• Check if quality processes are applied by all contributing engineering parties, escalating to QA/QC as needed.
• Identify, track, clarify, and drive project change cases related to engineering scope.
• Collect and consolidate project risks and opportunities, defining and coordinating actions to mitigate risks and lead to opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc., and knowledge of HV grid power systems.
• Knowledge of relevant international standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC) and knowledge in substation tendering and project engineering activities.
• Experience in providing optimized and customized solutions for various substation tenders (AIS, GIS, Hybrid, MoSS).
• Good understanding of civil and structural design elements of substations and ability to prepare, review, and validate Bill of Material for tenders or projects.
• Know-how on design calculations related to Primary Engineering and grounding system design, drawings, and Bill of Material.
• Innovative ideas to reduce engineering effort and analyze new development requirements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (Autodesk Revit, 3D competence preferred) and proficiency in required engineering calculation tools.
