We are looking for a Head of Product Design (f/m/d) to join our team. This is a full-time position with immediate start. The role is remote-first within Germany, with occasional on-site days mainly in our offices in Hürth and Berlin.

JTL is one of the leading e-commerce platforms in the German-speaking market. As Head of Product Design, you will own this ambition: the design vision, the quality bar, and the team.

Responsibilities

• Own the design vision and principles for JTL's design org and align them with product strategy.
• Build the design function (currently 7 designers) toward its target operating model.
• Plan design capacity across product teams and secure a dedicated slot for chapter work in quarterly planning.
• Lead and develop the design team: set clear expectations, give direct feedback, hire senior talent, and build the structure and responsibilities the org needs as it grows.
• Set the quality bar for craft and research: establish research standards, ops and tooling, build a real critique culture, and make design's business impact measurable and visible.
• Shape the design system from the design side, in close partnership with Engineering, and drive its adoption.
• Own cross-product experience coherence and arbitrate consistency conflicts between teams.
• Scale AI-enabled ways of working across design – for the craft and for the product experience.

Requirements

• 8+ years in product design with 4+ years leading designers, ideally in B2B SaaS or complex product environments.
• Proven org-building: leveled up a team through hiring, development, and clear standards.
• A strong personal craft foundation: can review interaction and visual work credibly, set the bar in critique, and go hands-on when it matters.
• Research maturity: extensive experience building research practice and methodology.
• Operating-model fluency: established design as an embedded, equal partner in empowered product teams.
• Business orientation: link experience quality to business metrics and make design's impact legible to leadership.
• Use AI as a natural part of your craft and leadership.
• Experience building or scaling a design system is a strong plus.
• Fluency in English; B1 German is required, with the ability to communicate in German in everyday situations.
