About the Position
Onwelo, a technology partner providing comprehensive services from strategy and architecture to maintenance in the areas of digital transformation, data, and automation, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer (Java) to lead a technical team of 5-7 developers. The project is executed in an enterprise environment using cloud-native architecture and engineering practices that support high-quality and availability of solutions.
The role will be responsible for the technical direction of the team, supporting developer growth, and collaborating with Product and Engineering to deliver scalable business solutions. Hybrid work model: 25% of the work time in the client's office in Scotland.
Responsibilities
- Technical leadership of a team of 5-7 developers.
- Making architectural and technological decisions.
- Ensuring the quality of the delivered solution and software production standards.
- Collaborating with Product and Engineering teams in planning and executing initiatives.
- Mentoring, subject matter support, and development of team members.
- Ensuring the delivery of best engineering practices such as Code Review, Pair Programming, TDD, BDD, and CI/CD.
- Supporting the construction of secure and highly available systems in a cloud environment.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of commercial experience in software development.
- Experience in roles such as Lead Software Engineer, Tech Lead, or Engineering Lead.
- Experience in leading teams working in Agile methodologies.
- Experience in collaborating with stakeholders at various organizational levels.
- Experience in working with system and solution architects.
- Ability to convince stakeholders of technical recommendations and support business decision-making.
- What was the time distribution between programming and team management in your last role?
- Experience in creating and developing enterprise solutions with high availability and scalability.
- Experience in mentoring and developing developers' competencies.
- Fluent communication skills in Polish and English (minimum level B2).

We Offer
- Hybrid work model: 25% of the work time in the client's office in Scotland, with the method of organizing onsite work flexible and agreed upon with the client. Onsite presence can be carried out in a regular model or in the form of accumulated trips, provided that the average level of approximately 25% of the work time on-site is maintained. The remaining part of the work is carried out remotely from Poland, the United Kingdom, or another EU country.
