About the Position
Mining Industry Lead (Principal Consultant)
Hybrid in Australia: Perth
Business Consulting
We are seeking a Mining Industry Lead (Principal Consultant) to establish EPAM's credibility in the mining sector, focusing on digital transformation and strategic leadership. This is a senior industry leadership role for someone who understands the mining value chain, speaks the language of asset owners and operators, and can engage credibly with CIOs, CTOs, COOs, technology leaders, and operational executives.
This is not a narrowly technical role. It is a strategic, high-impact role that includes market-making, practice-building, and client-facing leadership. The candidate should be able to translate mining industry challenges into repeatable EPAM service offerings, support strategic pursuits, shape client conversations, contribute thought leadership, and help build the team and ecosystem needed to grow the business. You’ll work at the intersection of mining, technology, data, AI, and digital transformation - helping shape client solutions, build market-facing offerings, and establish credibility in a growing practice.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead EPAM’s global Mining & Resources competency, including its market positioning, priority use cases, service offerings, delivery capabilities, talent model, partner ecosystem, and growth roadmap.
- Identify the areas where EPAM can create the most differentiated value for mining clients, such as mine planning, operational excellence, automation, asset performance, remote operations, data platforms, AI enablement, industrial digital twins, ESG/sustainability, enterprise architecture, and field-to-boardroom operational visibility.
- Lead pre-sales, client engagement, and solution shaping to build credibility as a trusted partner in conversations around digital transformation, technology strategy, AI, data, automation, operational modernization, and value realization in mining.
- Act as a credible partner to mining executives, asset owners, CIOs, CTOs, digital and operational leaders, and transformation sponsors in translating industry challenges into practical solutions across data, AI, cloud, digital, and operational transformation.
- Develop repeatable industry offerings, accelerators, platforms, and reusable solution frameworks, including opportunities aligned to strategic technology and ecosystem partnerships.
- Partner with EPAM account teams, regional business units, delivery leaders, and industry teams to identify opportunities, shape proposals, and win new work.
- Contribute to revenue growth, billability, pipeline development, client expansion, and margin-accretive industry offerings.
- Help establish a clear commercial model for the competency, including advisory engagements, delivery programs, managed services, accelerators, and repeatable solutions.
- As the business grows, build and lead a team of mining domain consultants, solution leads, architects, delivery specialists, and industry practitioners.
- Create internal knowledge assets, playbooks, training materials, and reusable frameworks that help EPAM scale its mining capability.
- Create and contribute to thought leadership, industry points of view, conference content, client briefings, white papers, and executive presentations.
- Track industry trends including automation, AI, electrification, energy transition minerals, safety, productivity, sustainability, resource modeling, remote operations, and enterprise modernization, converting those into actionable client conversations and differentiated offerings.
Requirements
- The ideal candidate is a senior mining industry technology and transformation leader who has worked inside, alongside, or deeply with major mining companies. They should have broad fluency across the mining value chain and enough depth to be credible with both business and technical stakeholders.
- They should understand how mining companies operate, how decisions are made, where technology creates value, and why many digital transformation efforts struggle to scale. They should be comfortable moving between strategy, operations, technology, data, AI, delivery, and commercial conversations.
- The candidate should bring an established network and credibility across the mining industry, including senior executives, technology leaders, operational stakeholders, vendors, partners, and decision makers. They should be willing and able to support mining clients globally.
- Strong understanding of the mining value chain, including exploration, resource development, mine planning, operations, processing, maintenance, logistics, asset management, safety, sustainability, and corporate functions.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to translate mining challenges into clear client value, practical solutions, and market-facing offerings.
- Senior-level presence with strong collaboration, an interest in digital transformation, data, AI, and emerging technologies, and an established network in the Australian mining sector being highly advantageous.
- Experience shaping or leading digital transformation, automation, data, AI, enterprise modernization, operational technology, or industrial transformation programs.
- Strong commercial orientation, including experience supporting sales pursuits, shaping proposals, growing accounts, or developing market-facing offerings.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with or for major global mining companies as well as for or with consulting, systems integration, and professional services companies.
- Background in mining technology, OT/IT convergence, industrial automation, digital twins, remote operations, connected worker, asset performance, AI/ML, data platforms, cloud transformation, or enterprise architecture.
- Familiarity with mining software ecosystems, operational systems, industrial data platforms, planning systems, fleet systems, maintenance systems, and enterprise platforms.
- Prior responsibility for revenue, billability, utilization, practice growth, or commercial targets.
- Recognized presence in the mining technology community through speaking, publishing, advisory work, industry participation, or executive networks.
We Offer
- Opportunity to work in a hybrid role in Perth, Australia.
- Be part of a leading global company, EPAM Systems.
- Competitive contractor terms.
