Principal Engineer till Allica Bank

About the Position

Allica Bank is establishing itself in Sweden and is looking for its first Principal Engineer! This is a rare opportunity to shape the technical foundation of a completely new market; with Allica's full experience behind it.

Responsibilities

As Principal Engineer, you will set the technical direction for multiple squads and act as the line manager for several Staff and Senior Engineers. You will shape the architecture, drive platform development, and create common technical standards that make it easier for teams to deliver secure and reliable solutions. The role is part of Allica's technical leadership and involves close collaboration with the CTO, Product, and other technical leaders.

You will work hands-on: designing and reviewing architecture, pair programming with developers, and contributing code to high-priority initiatives. Specifically, this means:

• Setting and developing technical patterns and guidelines for backend (Kotlin/Java Spring Boot, REST/OpenAPI) and frontend (React/TypeScript) used cross-functionally in multiple squads
• Driving common platform initiatives that reduce complexity and create reusable solutions, such as shared libraries, observability tools, and infrastructure templates
• Defining and maintaining standards for performance, reliability, security, and availability together with Architecture, InfoSec, Risk, and Compliance
• Driving architecture and system design for complex initiatives where multiple teams need to collaborate, focusing on clear interfaces, sustainable solutions, and reduced complexity
• Shaping and improving how we build and operate on Azure, including Container Apps, Static Web Apps, networking, and scaling
• Driving improvements in the developer experience through common tools, automation, and standardized practices
• Leading the work on AI-assisted development, from Claude Code and GitHub Copilot to common practices, guidelines, and monitoring of effects
• Acting as a mentor and line manager for Staff and Senior Engineers, supporting their development as their technical leaders

Requirements

• Broad experience working in product companies and designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems with Spring Boot (Kotlin/Java), React, and TypeScript
• Experience defining and implementing technical guidelines and architectural patterns in an organization with multiple squads
• Solid experience with Azure and a good understanding of secure coding and regulatory requirements in financial services
• Experience with personnel responsibility and leading and coaching senior developers
• Strong communicator who can explain complex technical issues clearly and build trust with both technical and business stakeholders
• Familiarity with using GenAI, such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot
• Proficiency in Swedish and fluent in English
