About the Position
Principal Technical Product Manager - Commerce (Billing & Monetization)
Working at Atlassian
Atlassians have the flexibility to choose their work environment, whether in an office, from home, or a combination of both. This flexibility allows Atlassians to better support their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
About the Commerce Platform Team
The Commerce Platform is a foundational organization at Atlassian, responsible for how products are packaged, priced, billed, and managed across the ecosystem. It supports quoting, billing, subscription management, and payment orchestration for all Atlassian products and customer segments. As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will lead high-visibility programs in collaboration with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Go-To-Market to build durable, scalable capabilities for the future.
Responsibilities
- Drive Platform Strategy & Roadmaps: Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to define multi-year strategic roadmaps for core commerce capabilities (billing, quoting, subscription management, and payment processing).
- Translate Business Strategy into Execution: Connect enterprise business models, global tax rules, multi-currency strategies, and compliance requirements to clear platform milestones and cross-team delivery plans.
- Lead Flagship Commerce Programs: Orchestrate complex, multi-team programs from inception to rollout, including billing modernization, quote-to-cash process improvements, platform migrations, and financial controls.
- Drive Cross-Functional Alignment: Foster collaboration and shared accountability across Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, Finance, Tax, Billing Operations, and GTM teams.
- Champion Delivery & Operational Excellence: Establish structured governance, manage critical dependencies, identify operational risks early, and ensure predictable execution across major platform initiatives.
- Mentor & Elevate the TPM Practice: Coach and mentor peers across the organization, promoting best practices in program leadership, stakeholder management, and outcome-oriented delivery.
Impact you’ll have
- Scalable Business Backbone: Enable Atlassian’s long-term growth by delivering robust, scalable commerce and billing platform capabilities.
- Streamlined Customer & Operations Experience: Reduce operational friction across quoting, purchasing, and billing journeys for customers, partners, and internal teams.
- Financial Integrity & Compliance: Embed automated platform controls and audit-ready processes to ensure billing accuracy, prevent revenue leakage, and maintain compliance standards.
- High-Trust Cross-Organizational Delivery: Create alignment and shared momentum across disparate teams, unlocking faster time-to-market for monetization initiatives.
Requirements
- Commerce & Quote-to-Cash Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of commerce ecosystems, including billing systems, quoting/CPQ workflows, payment orchestration, subscription lifecycles, or financial ledger/ERP integrations.
- Platform & Product-Minded Leadership: Ability to treat internal teams, partners, and customers as platform stakeholders-framing problems through both a business value and system-capability lens.
- Cross-Functional Influence & Collaboration: Demonstrated success aligning diverse stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Finance, Operations, and senior leadership around a unified vision and plan.
- Mastery in Navigating Ambiguity: Proven track record of breaking down complex, multifaceted initiatives into structured roadmaps, clear milestones, and actionable workstreams.
- Strategic Problem-Solving & Operational Rigor: Strong capability in dependency mapping, risk mitigation, and establishing lightweight governance for large-scale business and technical programs.
