Project Manager - Core Banking & Payments

What we are looking for:

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager – Core Banking & Payments, with extensive experience in managing complex projects in the banking sector, to lead strategic initiatives related to core banking, retail banking products, and payment methods, in a demanding and international corporate environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end planning and execution of projects, leading multidisciplinary teams and acting as the main interlocutor with various stakeholders, ensuring compliance with deadlines, quality, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and oversee end-to-end projects in the core banking, retail products, and payment methods scope.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams (business, technology, operations, compliance) of 5 to 20 people.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and risks.
  • Be the main contact for internal (management, business, IT) and external (suppliers, regulators) stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Business Analysis, architecture, and development teams to ensure the correct translation of business needs.
  • Identify, escalate, and manage risks and impediments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate decision-making and conflict resolution within the team.
  • Prepare executive reporting and communicate project status to management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards applicable to the project scope.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the teams under their charge.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Project Manager, with at least 5 years in the banking or financial sector.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing technical and functional teams.
  • Knowledge of core banking and its lifecycle (contracting, maintenance, product settlement).
  • Experience in retail banking product projects: loans, mortgages, accounts, cards, and deposits.
  • Knowledge of the payment ecosystem: SEPA, transfers, instant payments, PSD2, cards (Visa/Mastercard schemes), and clearing systems.
  • C1 English level certified. Experience working with international teams or suppliers.
  • Proficiency in project management tools: JIRA, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have

  • PMP (PMI), PRINCE2, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in agile methodologies at scale: SAFe, LeSS, or Scrum of Scrums.
  • Knowledge of banking regulations: Banco de España, ECB, PSD2, AML/KYC, GDPR.
  • Experience in core banking migration or implementation projects.
  • Experience leading projects in multinational or offshore environments.
  • Knowledge of organizational change management.
