About Us
At IDENER.AI, our team of engineers, scientists, and software developers is dedicated to exploring the potential of Artificial Intelligence to solve some of the world's most challenging problems. We integrate machine learning, systems modeling, advanced control, and mathematical optimization to tackle complex engineering challenges. Our mission is to develop sustainable technologies that drive progress and contribute to the advancement of human development.
Founded in 2010 in Seville by a group of recent PhD graduates with a strong theoretical background in control and systems engineering, IDENER has grown into an interdisciplinary company of +115 professionals participating in over 105 international R&D initiatives. Supported by state-of-the-art AI infrastructure and pilot-scale laboratories, we are uniquely positioned to create real, tangible value by applying AI beyond the software industry alongside top global research centers, universities, and industrial pioneers.
At IDENER.AI, we firmly believe that our true value lies in our people. We foster a positive, supportive, and inspiring work environment where you can develop professionally while collaborating daily with top international teams. We offer high work autonomy, a culture built on trust, and complete schedule flexibility, empowering you to organize your annual time freely and achieve a healthy work-life balance.
About the Role
Are you a materials scientist, chemist, or engineer passionate about advancing next-generation solar energy technologies? We are looking for an R&D Researcher in PV Materials to join our team and drive material-level innovation across high-impact international R&D projects, such as TERASUN.
This dynamic role balances applied materials research with scientific development. You will analyze material behavior, evaluate degradation mechanisms, test novel formulations across the photovoltaic value chain, collaborate within international consortia, and explore innovative proposals and solutions to real-world technical challenges aligned with your research interests.
Responsibilities
- Material Characterization & Analysis: Analyze, interpret, and evaluate characterization data (such as physical, chemical, thermal, or electrical testing) to assess the quality and performance of photovoltaic materials and components (silicon, thin-film, perovskites, encapsulants, or backsheets).
- Performance & Reliability Analysis: Evaluate long-term stability, aging mechanisms, and degradation protocols of photovoltaic devices under real-world and accelerated testing conditions.
- Applied R&D & Material Selection: Identify, screen, and optimize alternative or recycled materials, ensuring compatibility with solar cell and module assembly technologies.
- Scientific Output & Solution Ideation: Author high-level technical deliverables, present research findings, and contribute to conceptualising new technical initiatives, exploring novel solutions to real-world industry problems in your areas of interest.
- International Partner Engagement & Collaboration: Build, explore, and maintain an international network of academic and industrial partners, fostering strong relationships, coordinating technical activities, and driving joint innovation in global R&D initiatives.
Requirements
- Education: Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: Theoretical or practical background in photovoltaics (PV) and solar materials science or semiconductor characterization.
- Skills:
- Capacity for technical and scientific writing (theses, reports, or research papers).
- A strong problem-solving mindset with the curiosity to explore innovative technical solutions for real-world industrial challenges.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish to connect with global partners, share findings, and contribute to an open, collaborative team environment.
Why IDENER.AI?
- We make work-life balance a central part of our culture by offering a fully flexible schedule, where you decide how to allocate your annual working time.
- We strive to maintain a work environment that cares, supports, and inspires by focusing on every team member’s financial, mental, physical, and emotional needs.
- Our organisation is built on trust, cooperation, and equity, providing you with the safety and accountability required to propose and execute your own ideas from day one.
- We champion high levels of ownership and initiative, ensuring you have the autonomy to lead your own work while having access to a senior team for high-level technical collaboration and strategic guidance.
