Senior Electrical Substation Engineer

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Substation Engineer to lead high-voltage electrical power substation projects in Houston, TX, with a salary range of $140K-170K. This is a direct hire opportunity where the selected candidate will be employed directly by our client.

Responsibilities

• Leads substation projects from the conceptual phase through completion.
• Prepares and develops substation design packages, including physical arrangement, protective relaying, control, electrical studies, and more.
• Develops substation calculations such as insulation, AC station service, DC systems, voltage drop, cable sizing, and conduit fill.
• Prepares design sketches, cost estimates, equipment specifications, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
• Applies advanced knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and other industry standards.
• Leads field inspections for substation facilities on public and private utility systems.
• Executes complex assignments using advanced tools and techniques.
• Identifies, communicates, and leads resolution of issues on projects.
• Manages project schedule and budget under supervision.
• Ensures deliverables and services meet client satisfaction and internal QA/QC guidelines.
• Performs design quality reviews.
• Meets and corresponds with clients to develop relationships.
• Prepares proposals, including schedule and budget estimates.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years of substation project or related experience, consulting experience preferred.
• OR Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related degree from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years of substation project or related experience, consulting experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient computer skills (e.g., MS Office Suite).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Desire to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Capable of applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
