Job description
About the Position
Join REWE digital GmbH as a (Senior) Enterprise Architect
We are the home for all those who move in the digital world. A tech team where colleagues from various disciplines work together. Together, we bring innovations to retail – and thus to the everyday lives of millions of people.
As a partner in tech, we develop IT for the entire REWE Group. We digitize the daily and future retail business for millions of people. Your potential is our basis for innovation. So let's create, further develop, and perfect ideas together. Are you ready?
As a (Senior) Enterprise Architect, you will actively shape the strategic development of our IT landscape at the Group level – one of the largest and most complex IT landscapes in European retail (several thousand applications, cross-country and domain-wide). You will connect business and IT strategy and translate these into clear architectural visions, guidelines, and transformation initiatives. You will work closely with executives, departments, and architects, ensuring that our IT landscape remains efficient, scalable, and future-proof. You will see Enterprise Architecture as a shaping and enabling force – close to product and platform teams, modern and pragmatic, with real value for the teams rather than mere documentation.
You will work on central questions such as:
- How do we develop our system landscape in line with strategic business goals?
- How do we create standards and reusability across domains?
- How do we manage transformation in a complex, evolved IT landscape?
You will thus be involved in one of the largest and most diverse IT landscapes in the German retail sector – with direct influence on key business processes along the entire value chain.
Responsibilities
- You will derive architectural visions and transformation paths from the corporate and IT strategy
- You will define architectural principles, standards, and governance, connecting binding guidelines with enabling the teams
- You will structure the IT landscape (e.g., Capability Maps and Application/Technology Portfolio Views) and make dependencies and action fields transparent – focusing on control and decisions, not just documentation
- You will make architecture measurable and manageable through metrics & analytics (e.g., transparency on complexity, dependencies, time-to-market, or modernization degree)
- You will prepare strategic technology and investment decisions and accompany them in close cooperation with management and relevant stakeholders
- You will work with domain and solution architects and ensure coherence across all levels
- You will actively develop the EAM methodology, tools, and community
Requirements
- Several years of experience as an Enterprise Architect or in a comparable strategic architecture role
- Clear EA focus – not just solution/data architecture and not architecture as a mere documentation task
- Ability to translate business goals into structured architectural decisions
- Solid knowledge of EAM methods (e.g., TOGAF, ArchiMate) and application/technology portfolio management
- Experience with complex, distributed system landscapes and transformations
- Current architectural understanding with product orientation, platform approaches, and modern organizational models (e.g., Team Topologies)
- Strong in communication and moderation at different levels, also in management context
- Experience with EAM tools and structured decision-making
Nice to Have
- Communication
- Moderation
- EAM-Tools
- Decision-Making
We Offer
- Life-Work-Integration through flexible working hours, remote work, 30 days of vacation + regional traditional days, time-off models (sabbatical, care leave, etc.) and company kindergarten.
- More time for you – take advantage of up to two additional weeks of vacation per year; plan individually, redeem flexibly in consultation with your team.
- We invest in your future. With your annual training budget of approx. 2,000 €, you can learn in terms of your individual skill development. So stay curious and gather new input for you and all of us on our own learning platform, the "IT Learning Hub", at professional conferences, in professional books, or at one of the many free workshops from our Learning Canvas.
- Updates for you at in-house workshops and events, such as hackathons and tech talks, as well as weekly stand-ups, regular tech all-hands, and open door formats.
- Your scope for design in determining your hardware (MacBooks, ThinkPads) and operating system (MacOS, Linux, Windows) - look forward to modern IT equipment and a broad and innovative tech stack.
- Your impact, because you develop applications and services for millions of people - with over 1 billion data sets daily, on over 6 million mobile phones, 32,000 cash registers, or in 7,300 markets.
- Your relaxed commute with the discounted Germany Ticket, a company bike, and parking spaces right at the door.
- Our networks like DITO - different together, SHINE, f.ernetzt, WomEngineers @REWE digital, and Women's Drive make us a diverse community and support your personal development.
- Benefits of a corporation for you, e.g., in the form of discounts at REWE, PENNY, toom Baumarkt, and the DERTOUR Group, comprehensive health benefits, support for your pension provision in the form of asset-linked benefits and the REWE Pension Fund, special benefits such as holiday and Christmas bonuses, and much more.
