Job description
About the Position
We're seeking a Senior Principle Engineer - Analytics Platform to lead the technical strategy for a shared analytics platform at Atlassian.
Responsibilities
- Define and lead the multi-year technical strategy for a shared analytics platform used across Atlassian products.
- Evolve AP’s core capabilities: charting libraries, dashboard canvas and editing experiences, global filters, templates, permissions, data interaction patterns, and embedding APIs.
- Establish a durable developer-platform model so product teams can integrate AP quickly while retaining the flexibility they need for domain-specific data, configuration, and experiences.
- Partner with other data teams, product, design, and AI teams to create a consistent path from governed data and semantic definitions to useful visual and AI-assisted insights.
- Lead architectural decisions across frontend performance, query experience, data contracts, visualisation rendering, accessibility, and multi-product extensibility.
- Simplify fragmented reporting and dashboard solutions, creating clear migration paths toward a consistent, modern analytics experience.
- Set a high bar for customer trust: chart correctness, filtering accuracy, data freshness, query latency, availability, security, and observability.
- Make hard trade-offs between a globally consistent platform and product-specific flexibility-and make those trade-offs legible to senior leaders.
- Influence architecture and execution across several teams; mentor senior technical leaders and raise the engineering bar across AVP.
Requirements
- Deep experience building customer-facing platform products, preferably in analytics, visualisation, reporting, workflow, or developer-platform domains.
- Strong technical judgement across modern frontend architecture, APIs, distributed systems, data products, and platform extensibility.
- A demonstrated ability to turn reusable primitives into a platform that multiple product teams can successfully adopt.
- Experience designing interactive, high-scale data experiences where performance, correctness, accessibility, and trust are essential.
- Strong product instincts: you understand that a chart library or API is only successful when it lets customers accomplish meaningful work simply and confidently.
- Track record of leading complex, multi-team technical strategy and delivering large-scale migrations or platform consolidation.
- Experience partnering closely with product design and product management while maintaining a high engineering and operational bar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to bring clarity to ambiguous, cross-functional decisions.
- A hands-on engineering mindset and a strong record of developing other technical leaders.
Nice to Have
- Embedded analytics, dashboard builders, data visualisation libraries, or no-code/low-code product capabilities.
- Multi-tenant SaaS platforms, design systems, accessibility, and internationalisation.
- Data governance, semantic layers, metrics consistency, or data-quality systems.
- AI-assisted insight generation or natural-language analytics.
- Platforms supporting multiple product surfaces and independently evolving consumer teams.
