Senior Software Engineer (Trust)

About the Position

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Trust) to join our Trust team. Our AI-powered product uses advanced image recognition, facial verification, face recognition, facial anti-spoofing (liveness detection), and behavior analysis to make identity decisions. We help our partners build onboarding processes that ensure good people get things done and bad folks get stopped.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building, and operating Trust's backend services with a focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Expanding our global coverage by onboarding new countries and data sources quickly
• Modelling messy, inconsistent upstream data into consistent, well-defined verification results
• Making our systems resilient to upstreams we don't control
• Handling sensitive personal data responsibly
• Participating in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems
• Driving engineering quality through code reviews, CI practices, runbook documentation, and mentoring teammates

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend applications with Python
• Hands-on experience integrating with third-party APIs at scale
• Proven ownership of production-critical services
• Deep experience designing for resilience in distributed systems
• Strong data modelling instincts
• Strong understanding of modular design approaches and SOLID principles
• Hands-on experience building scalable, maintainable APIs
• Proficiency in a range of testing strategies
• Solid understanding of relational database fundamentals
• Familiarity with structured logging and observability practices
• Strong communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with identity verification, KYC/AML, financial services, or government/registry integrations
• Experience working under data privacy and regulatory constraints (GDPR, regional data residency)
• Experience with event-driven systems, workflow or orchestration engines, or Kubernetes
