Senior Substation Designer 1

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Substation Designer with 8-11 years of experience to join our team in Overland Park, KS, Orlando, FL, Cary, NC, Houston, TX, or Ann Arbor, MI. Responsibilities

• Engineering Standards: Provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and Black and Veatch policies and procedures.
• Quality / Continuous Improvement: Promote quality within the project/group/section, review design inputs to ensure consistency, and assist in ensuring deliverables comply with specific codes and standards.
• Engineering Production: Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities, and estimates.
• Project Coordination: Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development. Communicate project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
• Client Focus: Assist with the identification of key client interests and drivers and communicate these to project team members. Develop approaches to accommodate client concerns.
• Knowledge Sharing, Innovation, and Technology: Assist in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities. Identify training and development needs for personnel.
• People Management: Supervise engineering technicians, including mentoring, instructing, delegation of work, and providing feedback.

Requirements

• Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology
  • Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology
  • Typically a minimum of 8-11 years related work experience
  • Advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS)
  • Advanced experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS)
  • Intermediate knowledge of schematics, wiring, and panel fronts
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, and B&V policies and procedures
  • Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends
  • Advanced knowledge of other disciplines
  • Basic knowledge of construction & constructability practices & principles
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides related to assigned engineering discipline
  • Basic knowledge of procurement & contract administration

• Minimum Qualifications:

  • Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience
