We are currently seeking a Senior Substation Designer to join our team in Overland Park, KS, Cary, NC, or Houston, TX.


Responsibilities

  • Engineering Standards: Provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and Black and Veatch policies and procedures.
  • Quality / Continuous Improvement: Promote quality within project/group/section, review design inputs to ensure consistency, and assist in ensuring deliverables comply with specific codes and standards.
  • Engineering Production: Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
  • Client Focus: Assist with the identification of key client interests and drivers and communicate these to the project team.
  • Knowledge Sharing, Innovation, and Technology: Assist in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities.
  • People Management: Supervise engineering technicians, including mentoring, instructing, delegation of work, and providing feedback.

Requirements

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology
    • Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology
    • Minimum of 8-11 years of related work experience

  • Preferred Technical Skills:
    • Advanced experience with AutoCAD Electrical (SDS)
    • Advanced experience with Protection & Controls drawings (AIS and/or GIS)
    • Intermediate knowledge of schematics, wiring, and panel fronts
    • Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, and B&V policies and procedures
    • Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends
    • Advanced knowledge of other disciplines
    • Basic knowledge of construction & constructability practices & principles
    • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides related to assigned engineering discipline
    • Basic knowledge of procurement & contract administration
