About the Position
At NetApp, our High Achievement Principles shape how we work: we innovate to elevate, drive results, and excel as a team. We have a history of helping customers turn challenges into business opportunities. That’s because we bring new thinking to age-old problems, like how to use data most effectively in the most efficient possible way. As an Engineer with NetApp, you’ll have the opportunity to work with modern cloud and container orchestration technologies in a production setting. You’ll play an important role in scaling systems sustainably through automation and evolving them by pushing for changes to improve reliability and velocity.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical contributor and de facto technical leader for the end-to-end development, validation, and support of cutting-edge on-prem technologies.
- Drive architectural decisions, set technical direction across firmware/software/manufacturing boundaries, and mentor junior engineers.
- Define test plans and validation frameworks, not just execute them.
- Apply AI/ML and GenAI architectures to system diagnostics, automation, or tooling.
- Debug and optimize at the protocol level.
- Root-cause complex kernel/networking issues.
- Design and drive automation frameworks/strategy to improve efficiency, coverage, and reliability across teams.
- Lead technical investigations independently, make sound decisions under ambiguity, and own outcomes end-to-end.
- Contribute to technical roadmap, architecture reviews, or strategic planning for the product/platform.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in software development lifecycle, test strategy design, and quality ownership.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML and GenAI architectures, prompt engineering, and applying these to system diagnostics, automation, or tooling.
- Advanced understanding of networking concepts and protocols, with ability to debug and optimize at the protocol level.
- Advanced understanding of OS internals, with proven ability to root-cause complex kernel/networking issues.
- Advanced understanding of storage and hardware interface concepts, including performance tuning and failure analysis.
- Proven track record of designing and driving automation frameworks/strategy to improve efficiency, coverage, and reliability across teams.
- Expert-level programming skills in Python, C & C++, with strong software design/architecture sense.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations independently, make sound decisions under ambiguity, and own outcomes end-to-end.
- Track record of mentoring engineers, conducting design/code reviews, and raising the technical bar across the team.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills able to represent technical decisions to stakeholders and influence direction across software, firmware, and manufacturing teams.
Education
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
We Offer
- Opportunity to work with modern cloud and container orchestration technologies in a production setting.
- Collaborative environment with high-performing teams.
- Professional growth and development opportunities.
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
