Software Engineer, Securities Finance

We are looking for a Software Engineer, Securities Finance to join our dynamic team at Alpaca, a global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure. This role is remote and open to candidates in the Americas.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer on the Securities Finance (SecFi) team, you will:

• Build and run the systems behind Alpaca's lending and borrowing products.
• Work on backend systems that power various brokerage customer experiences.
• Own a project from initial problem discussion through to production.
• Improve existing systems to enhance performance and reliability.
• Learn about securities lending, collateral, and settlement, and the rules governing short selling.
• Take your turn on call and fix root causes of recurring issues.

Requirements

• Must-Haves
  • Solid fundamentals in computers, networks, databases, and distributed systems.
  • 3+ years of experience building distributed systems that actually run in production.
  • Proficiency in Go, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Ability to design a good RESTful API and identify issues in others' APIs.

Nice to Have

• Experience in securities clearing, securities settlement, or securities finance.
• Familiarity with gRPC, Protobuf, Kafka or Redpanda, Grafana, Helm, Docker, and Temporal.
• Comfortable with daily batch jobs, file-based integrations, and reconciliation work.
• Knowledge of broker-dealer operations, Reg SHO, or short-sale rules.
