About the Position

We are looking for a Staff Engineer Backend & Architecture to join our team at chargecloud. You will be responsible for owning and evolving the backend and service architecture across product teams, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the backend and service architecture across product teams.
• Lead the technical migration of our legacy monolith towards a modular, API-first service architecture.
• Design our event-driven architecture on Kafka and establish the streaming patterns.
• Make and document impactful architectural decisions, leading cross-team alignment.
• Mentor and grow engineers through pair programming, design reviews, and code-quality feedback.
• Drive AWS infrastructure decisions relevant to service delivery.
• Identify and introduce AI tooling to improve developer productivity and product quality.
• Proactively communicate technical risks, progress, and recommendations to your manager and peers.

Requirements

• Staff Engineer level experience with demonstrated technical leadership across teams.
• Expert-level backend knowledge in a modern typed language and framework.
• Deep understanding of modern architecture patterns.
• Experience with decomposing a monolith into services in production.
• Strong experience with AWS and Kubernetes.
• AI-keen with active exploration and application of AI tools and techniques.
• Fluent in English; German is a plus.
